I was looking to have my front and rear bumper painted to match the truck (black) and I want to have it done professionally instead of just rattle canning it. If I could get the same look from a can I would do it but I know when I am out of my element.

What have you guys paid to have it done? I was thinking of just pulling the bumpers and the plastic upper piece off myself and dropping them off at a shop to save some labor.

Any other thoughts on how to get it done?

I third this... Haven't even gotten a hold of my truck yet, but already have plans. Doing something about all the chrome is towards the top of the list. Was thinking of just trying Plasti-Dip first, just to see what it looks like, as it's very cheap and easy to undo.

As a point of reference, had to have a decent sized dent and scratch (down to bare metal) in my old truck's tailgate fixed which required some bodywork and paint, and that was $400.

I want to know myself.
My suggestion is take it to the shop that is doing the work and ask, everywhere is different.
This is my plan for tomorrow afternoon. I was just curious if anyone had done this and what it cost them. There aren't a lot of choices where I live so I want to know what to expect the worst case should be. I'll post up the numbers I get from at least the first shop I go to.

Thanks guys

Mike

So this is what I have found so far:

If I remove the four parts and have the metal sandblasted first the price goes for around $400

I found a really good shop (great experience with a previous truck) that will do the sandblasting and painting for a total of $500. I know I might be able to save a few bucks by sandblasting it myself but if I let them do it any future problems can't be blamed on my sandblasting.

My schedule is pretty tight for the next few weeks so it might be a while before I can get this done. I'll be sure to post pics when it's complete.

Well, I dropped off the truck at the body shop this morning for the front and rear color matching. Hopefully I'll get her back tomorrow afternoon. The price is going to be $650. I know it's a little higher then what I originally thought but this price includes them removing the parts, blasting, stripping, painting and reinstalling everything. Besides, when I asked the dealer how much to do the same thing he said they couldn't get me color matched parts but they had done the same thing I am having done for a guy and it only cost him $3,200:cookoo[1]:

I'll post some pics as soon as I can

Had my black truck done as mentioned. It's quite the process, from what I understand the metal bumpers need to be dipped in a solution that completely strips the chrome.

The shop I used is high end - they've worked on my Porsche as well as my Lamborghini. Out the door It cost me $1500 and it looks better than factory.
