I wanted to get some opinion on this subject before I proceed so here it is. Is doing a CP3 swap better or is buying an upgraded CP4 better? Would you have to get different tunes with the upgraded CP4? Let me know what you all think.

I had my CP4 swapped out and downgraded to CP3 just last month. I haven't noticed anything different except my mileage between regens have increased as well peace of mind and reliability for this truck. Not really sure of increased mileage between regens is a good thing or not. They did have to retune my Motor Ops tuner.

I'm a little confused. I thought Exergy made a FPR that limits the amount of damage to the whole engine should the CP4 fails and throws parts all over the engine. I put one of those Exergy FPRs just for peace of mind until I decided to just remove the CP4 and replaced it with the CP3 for better peace of mind. I can't find anything about a CP4 that exergy makes on their website.

I think this what I will end up doing. I will have to find a good reputable EGR delete kit to finish my delete so I can install the CP3 but I think that's what I will do. Probably a Fleece PowerFlo 750 kit and Exergy 60% over injectors. My trucks already been deleted and tuned I will just need a re-tune when the time comes to do all this. Probably an EZ Lynk system.

Hey guys, I'm new to the group and have been asking the same questions as you all have. I have found some good info and will post links to video explanations below. As far as the Exergy CP4.2, WehrliCustomFab put it best. While it has the beefed up FCA/MPROP and a redesigned cam lobe to increase stroke within the pump, it is still a CP4.2. Seriously check out the links below for the in depth analysis. My biggest take away is that the CP3 was a superior design, albeit, sending less fuel pressure to the rails than the CP4, but much less prone to failure. If you go to the S&S Diesel website though, they have CP3 that are rated for higher pressure. It seems like a no brainer to go with the CP3's reliability. Also, I read somewhere that the Cummins ran CP3's all the way up to 2019...food for thought. Cheers!
