A long time debate fro sure. Everyone has different opinions. Optilube XPD is good but expensive. I order from IDParts.com it the cheapest you’ll find. Mostly I use power service Silver bottle-8oz per fill up and I fill every half tank if possible. May be overkill but its my choice.

As far as “Should I” that’s up to you. Where do you live? Does the fuel contain BIO? Thats the best.

I use power service on long trips, I usually don't think about it when I'm driving around town.

Silver bottle Power Service year round. I’ll give it an 8 oz shot every 4-5 tanks. Really the white bottle PS works just as well for routine maintenance because I’ve never noticed the cetane boost difference from silver bottle unless I run at least 2-4 (16-24 oz) treated tanks of it. Then it’s like someone is under the hood spraying propane in the cac. 😄

Pretty much agree with the prior posts but also wonder what year your truck is. LMM or older, probably don't really need it. An LML definitely benefits from something, like an earlier poster said, bio diesel is best. I get bio fuel pretty much every tank here in the midwest so I don't overspend on additive. I do run some white bottle PS because I notice a little fuel mileage bump from it most of the time.

They all benefit from an additive. Biodiesel with an additive is even better. Our fuel isn’t what it once was because of politics.

GM used t recommend using only Stanadyne diesel additive, probably because Stanadyne manufactured the Roosamaster injection pumps of their ill-fated 5.7 diesel engines. I use DK mostly, sometimes Optilube, Stanadyne and an occasional dose of Hotshot's Diesel Extreme. Here in Oregon, all diesel is bio blend which helps but I always try to use an additive.

I use stanadyne in every tank, but I also have an lml, with the stock cp4 at 185k. My dad uses Schaeffers in his lbz.

There is a video that shows testing for all of the different ones.

Buy yoru fuel from a station that has Bio (B5 up to B20) It is the very best additive for lubricity, beating even Opti Lube.

Should I be using a diesel fuel additive? What is everybody using?
I periodically will use a combination cetane booster and injector cleaner. If the truck sits with fuel getting older then a fuel stabilizer is also a good additive to prevent mold problems, especially with biodiesel.

07 LBZ, I have used Amsoil, stanadyne, whatever Walmart has, an occasional biodiesel, as long as it has some sort of lubricity in it for the injector pump and injectors it works pretty good. I have been running diesel since 1981 and have over a million miles all my different vehicles and have never had an injector failure or injector pump failure. Now look what happens in the future
