Yesterday it was a blast at Scheid's Extravaganza! I saw a lot of really hot Duramaxes pull very well. I did noticed that at least 3 of them literally ripped their driveshafts in half. I've never seen that before. Usually a u-joint seems to go before the shaft. Does GM have a "weak" driveshaft?
Also it seemed that at least half if not more of the GM trucks had H2 wheels on. Is this something that's better for pulling because of their strength or is just the looks? Nice job to the Duramax trucks pulling though.

As for the shafts im not sure i've only ever seen one steel dmax shaft twist off but most of the broken ones seem to be aluminum? and the wheels most folks just seem to run because they fit so well with large tires, and they look cool to.

Well the shafts I saw break at Scheid were just torn to pieces. It was nuts, never seen anything like it.

I believe it was a fron axle half shaft that broke on the Climax.

The H2's are popular because if you keep your eyes open you can get a new set of take off's for $500 most of the time. The BFG A/T's seem to hook well and do good on multiple track surfaces. The H2's are 34.5" tall also and the backspacing on the wheels allows for them to be tucked under the fenders fairly easilly. Also they are a 8.5" wide wheel and the D-max only comes with a 6.5" wide wheel from the factory.

There was a lot breakage all th way around. It seemed to to be more of a auto problem. Guys trying to down shift to second gear to late. Shocking the drive line and dropping a shaft. All in all great time and I did well.
