DSP5 Dash Install Help

Just got my EFI Live and DSP5 from ATP and I would like to mount it on the flat spot to the left of the steering wheel. This seems like a common location so I'm hoping for some guidance. Could someone tell me the procedure for installing it here. Did you take off the plastic dash cover to drill? Or can you drill it with leaving everything on the dash?

Right now I have my switch zip tied under the dash by my parking brake as a temporary solution.

I wish I would have mounted it inside the center console so nobody sees it,, out of sight out of mind lol,, but mine is mounted on the left side of the steering wheel.. Takes 5 min to install I recommend removing for a better line up and fit..

To take the dash trim off do you just pry it off? And is there adequate space behind the trim to fit the dsp body? Dont want to drill a hole and not be able to fit the switch behind it lol

Another quick question. I have read online that a 3/8" drill bit will work for the hole, but has anyone drilled a small hole for the boss that prevents the switch from rotating. Or how do you prevent the switch from moving around?

And when I install the switch, do I just loosen the set screw on the knob and then insert the threaded portion into the dash hole and then put the knob back on and tighten the set screw? Trying to get everything straightened up before I dive into it.

I put mine in the ashtray with the mount from ATP. I didn't want to make a hole in the dash and like it out of sight.

When you installed the switch, did you just loosen the set screw on the knob, insert the switch into the ashtray mount hole and then put the knob back on? Did you use epoxy or anything to hold the switch to the mount?

I put mine in the center console and i love it there no one sees it is out of the way and you don't put any holes on your dash. I bought mine from ATP as well and there is enough cable from the back of the console to the ECM. Just fish the wires down from the console with a coat hanger. I drilled the one big hole and one smaller hole to prevent it from spinning. Remove the switch knob set screw and knob noting the location, and put the switch in from the back side, tighten the lock nut and replace the knob. There is also a video on ATP on how to wire in the switch to your ECM.

Ok so you take off the knob to switch tunes and then there is a lock nut that you take off as well?

Here is mine...I just drilled the hole and put the nut on the backside and used no glue or anything. Just tightened it down. Haven't had any trouble with it at all. I put it there so its kinda out of sight to others especially! ha

When I installed mine in the ashtray I put the switch in holder first, then fed wire through firewall to ECM. The nut on switch holds it into the mount and the mount fit snug in ashtray. Drilled small hole in back tray for wire to pass thru. Can snap a pic if you want one.

I wouldn't recommend putting it on the dash bezel, it's going to make getting the bezel out a pain if you ever do radio work or anything like that. It's very easy to get off currently and having a DSP switch in there would make it tough

This is where I hid mine if you have a full length console:

I installed mine to the right side of the steering wheel, at the same level as the shift lever when it's in D, that way I know exactly where it is but it's difficult to see. I replaced the knob with a small electric guitar knob. I like it there, if I need to switch it I don't have to fumble around. I took the dash out to drill it, takes about 20 seconds.....

He meant he took the knob of for installation. You have to line the switch up with a little dot so you will know you on the 1 setting.....you turn the knob to change tunes...

Same here as Rikki.. mounted my switch inside the center console. On my 2007 CB there is a flat spot next to the coin trays and it fit perfectly; drilled a large hole and a small hole to accept the little pin so it does not spin. Out of sight but extremely easy to change when needed.
