Duramax vs Titan

I just bought me a 03 gmc crew cab 4x4 6.6 Duramax Allison Transmisson, What a awsome truck. My question is I want to race my friend who has a 06 Titan Crew 4x4, What do I need to do to my truck to smoke:peelout the hell out of his jap. truck in the 1/4 mile? And if i left mine stock what would be the outcome of the race?

I'm not sure how fast the Titan is, but you should be able to blow him out of the water with an Edge Juice with Attitude. You should only need level 3 to do it. Actually you probably only need about a 40 or 60 hp tune to really wake up your truck. Have you checked what his quarter mile time is according to a site like car and driver? Really it should be a no contest even with you in stock form. Although, I don't know much about the Titan, so I don't want to mislead you. I have gone against different vehicles in traffic and you know how people like to "race" you to the next stoplight? Well, in the summer I normally run about a 45 hp tune over stock and I blow them away without even trying. I am only at half throttle and I just pull away from most vehicles.
Im a new duramax owner and i havent really have any knowledge on them. Can you run the Edge Juice with Attitude Without any other mods, like intake exhuast ect.....
Yes it works fine. If you get the juice with attitude, you will have to install an EGT probe, but that is included and pretty easy to do. I drove my truck about 15000 miles before I put an intake on it. The Juice has safety features built into it to back down power if the EGTs get too far out of hand. As long as you aren't hot rodding it around all the time, you should be fine. Also, you would want to run it no higher than level 3 most of the time unless you plan on getting an upgrade done to your transmission.
I also want to go with 37x12.5x20 tires. What size lift would i need to clear the tires? I was thinking 8" Fabtech. who makes the best lift for these beast?
I would say that a stock duramax at the least would be even with the titan. I don't know what they do in the quarter mile but all you have to do is get a mild chip and you're sure to beat him. Even the best chip out there for a titan gas engine is no match for even the mildest chips for diesel engines. You can run the stock intake and exhaust, but it just doesn't make sense. They're both pretty cheap upgrades and yield quite a substantial gain for the money. At least get a 4" mandrel bent turbo back. And it would only make sense to get the intake too. Look at it this way, you buy the chip but stick with the stock intake and exhaust. It's restrictive compared to the aftermarket offerings. You want that air to get in and out as fast as possible which will increase power and lower EGT's at the same time. If you free it up, you can run higher chip hp levels and get the same temps as with lower levels and stock in/ex.
As for lifting the truck you're going to suck quite a bit of power out of whatever you do add to your truck once you throw on those giant shoes. Not to say a truck on 37's can't be fast, in fact I saw a highly modified dodge run mid 13's on 37's......but that's highly modified. You'd be on mild side so if you smoked that titan to begin with, you might just barely squeeze it out with the bigger, heavier rotating mass. As for a lift kit, i've really started to like fabtech the past couple of years and if I did decide to lift my truck again I'd probably go with their kit.
Anyway, i'd go ahead and race your buddy just to see what he has.....then go spend a few bucks and go for a rematch, but don't tell him what you did. Let him stare at your tailgate for a few...

You'll get smoked

I owned a '04 Nissan Armada (Titan SUV). My dad has a '04 chevy 2500hd crew cab with the "LLY" duramax with edge juice attitude and rbp exhaust with an air raid intake. I smoke him off the line and all the way to 100mph. My armada has a 60 series flowmaster and a K&N cold air intake. The titans and armada's have 5 speed tranny's that make them quick through their gears. I loved mine. The titan I assume would be faster. The only way my dad can beat me, is if we race on a rolling start already doing about 30 mph. I just put the Bully Dogg Triple Dog system on my '05 Duramax, and it is much quicker than the edge. Plus '05 are having a problem with edge for some reason. I am searching the streets for a Titan to race. My best 0-60 has been 7.27 sec. Stock Armada's do 7.00 sec 0-60 times. Good Luck!!!!!
Thanks for the info man, that puts it into a little better perspective...

what he said
LOL @duradud......
i was really only wanting to quote you on the intake and exhaust part but that didnt really work. it dont make sense thou, why go out and buy a chip/tuner to gain power, but not get the full advantages that they have to offer with the stock componets holding back the full potential? :cookoo not attacking anyone. just dont get it.
Yeah that's true....it's pointless
I have my '02 set up with a 65 hp increase courtesy Granetelli Motorsport's Diablo and a Borla 304 stainless 4" exhaust provided by Summit racing. I run a K&N intake filter. That's all. I run 285-75-R16 BFG All-Terrain KO's on the ground. I generally have good excelleration from zero to 60, but passing gear is unbelievable with really hard excelleration all the way to 98 mph where the speed limiter cuts in. When I take it easy (hard to do) I average 17 MPG city and highway.

No, I haven't tried to load my truck up with all the fastest go gadgets. I find that I get what I want with what I've got on this truck. I tow a 31 foot fifth wheel and get an average 14 mpg on most terrain with the 40 hp (tow) setting. Very good up-hill pull and crusin' sometimes I forget the trailer is back there!

These trucks are made for pullin'! You guys talk about these light weight trucks racing a 7500 lb diesel in the 1/8th or 1/4? Well, I have a better challenge. Let's line up a couple of yours, put on the park brake, let me tie them all together and pull them down the 1/8 with their tires smokin'. Now that's what a 2500 HD Duramax/Allison can do! Luv it!

But, if you want to race me in the short straight, I have another little toy that's, well, quite a bit quicker. It aint much to look at but it sure will snatch your head back. Bet you can't take the dollar off the dash on this one!

Yeah, they say that every 100 pounds equals about a tenth or so in the quarter mile......
The question of intakes is a viable one. Think about it. You ever take a real good look at the path of an intake on a diesel? You can add a large volume, smooth, straight aftermarket intake/filter setup and accomplish no more than if you just add a good high flow filter to the stock setup. This is due to the fact that the path all the way through and past the turbo, to the heads remains the same. Unless you increase the boost, and a number of other things in the process you will only minimize your efforts, and spend more money. Watch Extreme 4 x 4 on Spike TV in the near future. Ian and Jesse are building the "Suburban Gorilla". It will have twin turbos, head improvements and an extreme aftermarket intercooler and twin intake system that may produce more than 1000 HP. This is a good example of the real mods that can be made on a modern engine. Expensive.
Ooooohhhh man......Jesse is hot. Smokin' hot...
U will get killed with just a edge. Get tie rod sleeves so u can do a boosted launch. Next get a ppe or efi live contact me i will write u a tune that will kill him. but may kill stock tranny to lol j/k with just an edge i think the titan will win. My hopped up 350 about got beat and its got right at 550 hp but weights around 7500 pounds with 2 tool boxes loaded fuel 150 gallon fuel tank and 33 inch tall tires. Yes 6 mpg sucks
