EFI Live Tuning with EPA Ban in effect. What to do?

So, the EPA ban on EGR delete tuning came into effect on September 16/2019, this being said it makes selling tunes with a EGR Delete in the united states Illegal. I live in canada, where as far as i understand its still legal to sell/buy EGR delete tunes. So i am putting the question out to you guys, What can be done? all the grand-daddy tuners (PPEI, Ridge Runner, Kory etc) are all american and would have to abide by the law otherwise face huge fines. They can sell tunes still, however they cannot be EGR delete tunes. Is there a way to maybe, "Inject" a EGR Delete into one of these tunes before flashing it onto the truck? is there a retailer for these tuning companies based in canada (or other country, no regulated by the EPA) that maybe "Accidently" never got the EPA approved tunes from these well-known tuners? is there maybe a canadian tuner who is well respected?

you cant modify the tune so injecting anything into it thats not already there is not an option. You may want to look at Motorops, they are based in Canada. Technically though, EGR deletes have never been legal in the US, so its not really any different now than before except that its actually starting to be enforced.

Hey guys, New to the forum... I have a 2011 duramax and have a simple and probably stupid question... is there a way to just get a tuner that blocks the need for the def system without removing any of its components?? I’m tired of the endless bills for fixing each part but dont want to have a loud truck or need any more HP....
thanks

Hey guys. I need to know (and feel better) about what I’ve done to my LMM. I just put 3” downpipe and 5” straight exhaust. Had all intention of doing the EFI Live Willis tune. Of course now they don’t do deleted trucks!!! What are my options because truck dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and it stays in limp mode. EGR delete and up pipes will come later when I get the money. I just want a single tow tune to make my truck operable. Thanks!!!

What part of Canada are you in? I have a friend who lives just outside of Edmonton,AB. He purchased tuning locally for his Cummins. He seems happy with the results. If you are close to there I can call him and see if the shop does tuning on Duramax engines.

I hope this will fix it. It’s rolling black when you barely get into it. I get big smoke when I really lay into it. have to keep clearing the codes just to take it down the road to keep the batts up. I’d rather have no smoke if I can help it. Lol

Some part of me thinks my egr is probably completely clogged up. I bought the truck new and my own business up until last year. Truck has done a lot of still idling. I want to do the egr delete but don’t have the money. Any other reasons for excessive smoking?

black smoke means unburned fuel in the combustion stroke, so either you are not getting enough air into the cylinder (really restricted filter, damaged turbo, boost leak, ect) or you are adding too much fuel, which is unlikely with stock tuning unless theres been work done like upgraded injectors. Id look for a boost leak first.

I was able to find tuning - payed $699 for a fully deleted truck. 5 tunes and switch.

They are still out there.

I was SWEATING HARD when financing was going through and freaking out after doing a shit load of research.

It’s not as big of a deal as people let on.

Got the csvt2 for $352 today as well along with a bunch of maintenance items and some new parts and tires.

Spent just over 2k for everything and am VERY happy!

What’s already been mentioned

Airfilter clean 'dunno;
Boost leak 'dunno;
Do you have a way to check your max boost and monitor your turbo vane function.
Edge Insight CS2/CTS2 will monitor lots of stuff including what’s mentioned above.

When you get delete tuning it will also delete codes from the EGR if it’s blocked or deleted.
You can still run with the EGR functioning then when you block or delete, just do it.
You do NOT have to get new tuning just for the EGR.

I deleted 2008, left the EGR functioning until around 2013 using the same exact tuning.

They will not do any tune that removes emissions equipment from the truck. That includes the EGR, DPF, DEF, CAT, ect. It was a short phone call, but i covered my bases. Nice guy, dont mean to imply there doing anything wrong, but they were very firm on there no epa defeat tunes. I dont know if they have some kind of secret hand shake or something to get the good tunes, maybe thats something that happens, but average joe is not getting anything from them that defeats any EPA required hardware.

It has been said on this forum many times that Motor Ops is basically DT out of Canada and handles there non US compliant side of business and are even the same tunes, however i cannot confirm this rumor as im not a part of that industry.

If you had an old federal LB7, you could likely get "delete" tunes from them... but it wouldent really be deleting anything since the truck came from the factory with no emissions. Any truck with emissions systems from the factory they will not delete per there own support.

Just to clarify a couple of things that have been said here:

You can do anything you want to your tune, whether you got it from GM, a major tuner or the guy down the road. After all, that is how the big boys started out. Want to tune your L5P, delete everything that doesn't make it go and roll coal from here to D.C.? Just invest ten years into learning about how the systems work, blow up a couple of dozen engines and break about 100 laws and you can do it. Oh, you want a simple "turn this screw and it will add 100 HP" solution? Well there is no such thing and never has been. My whole career people have been asking me about that like it was a real thing. Bad tuning is pretty easy. Good tuning is very hard. Excellent tuning is for wizards.

If you just turn off all of your emissions without removing anything, for sure the DPF will fill with soot to the point it won't have to go into limp mode to restrict you to 45 mph. If you leave the EGR valve and cooler in place but not working they will also eventually fill up with soot. That is not such a big deal but if you then have to make them work to pass an inspection you will need new parts or at least to clean them out thoroughly. Better to take off what isn't being used but it isn't entirely unreasonable to leave it as long as you understand.

LLY delete kit is on hand just want to tune it correctly. I tow a 5th wheel and want a mileage tune and tow tune. The least smoke possible the best. Cleaning soot of the camper doesn’t seem like an ideal thing when getting to the site.
