In the middle of doing my head gaskets and decided to prep the deck while waiting on my heads. I scraped excess gasket material with a razor blade (carefully) and then wet sanded with wd40, 600 grit on a flat sanding block per GM's recommendation. The deck surface feels great except for some areas around the cylinder. It appears the fire ring has left some slight grooves on the deck. I wouldn't be worried but they just barely catch my finger nail, and I don't want to sand any more and risk creating a low spot. Some of the indentations came out with the few passes that I had made.

What do you guys think?

The shiny gouge looking marks under the small port are just fibers from a shop towel
