Hi all, going to change gear oil in F&R diff's. How many Qts do the hold and what do you think about Amsoil gear oil? I drive it pretty EZ, pull a camper (8,000 LBS) a couple times a year.

AMSOIL has worked well for me. Not because I sell it but because I use my truck quite a bit. So far I have 26k on it in less than a year. Pull a horse trailer once a month or so but nothing out of bounds. I have been using their products for several years in my gasser before buying my Dmax.

Besides the great protection I am getting from synthetics, I really like the extended drain intervals on things. For the Severe Gear 75W-90, you won't have to mess with it for another 100k miles.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.
I think I've read on here like 2.5 qts. Cant remember. I haven't changed my diffs yet. But have put AMS in the motor and like it. So now slowly changing them all over. Let me know what you think when you get it done please.
After draing the diffs and reinstalling the drain plug, fill til the oil is just below the hole (stick your little finger in there) or til the oil just starts to come out. I think about 7-8 qts. will fill both and maybe have a little left over.
You will need 6 qts total. About 2 for the front and almost 4 for the back.
Thanks So Much

Wow, I can't get over how helpful everyone has been. All of your Info is going to make the job a snap. I post how everything turned out. I'm a Motorcycle Tech by trade, so if anyone has any questions that I could repay the favior please feel free to ask.
Thanks again

The first time I did mine I measured what came out and how much went back in using a gauge made of wire for the 1/8" below the level check hole. Front used 1 Qt. 28 oz., rear used 3 Qt. 20 oz. I bought the pump from napa that pumps 1 oz per stroke.

I am using Amsoil and have been for a number of years. My wife's last car, 1996 Eagle Talon, AWD, Turbo, 5 speed, went 206,000 before we traded it.
It's very common to find that the factory did NOT completely fill the rear differential. So don't decide how much you need for a refill based on what came out of it. My 2008 factory fill was about a quart shy of what it should have been.
That's why I measured going back in.

DIFFERENTIAL'S

With 8.25 Ring Gear Front 3 pints
With 9.25 Ring Gear Front 3.6 pints
With 10.50 Ring Gear Rear 5.5 pints
With 11.50 Ring Gear Rear 6.4 pints
With 8.6 Ring Gear Rear 4.3 pints
With 9.50 Ring Gear Rear 5.5 pints

You can't go wront if you use Amsoil's Severe Gear 75W-90 Synthetic EP Lubricant. If you go on Amsoil's homepage go to "Gear Lubes" and their code per quart is (SVGQT)
Just to give everyone a heads up the front diff is the 9.25 and the rear diff is the 11.50 on the HD's.
