2021 silverado 3500 HC w 76k miles. Is this noise normal. My first l5p. My lbz and lml didn't make this noise. Was under hood doing coolant reservoir and had hood up when I started it. Any advice is helpful. As a gearhead this noise makes my head sad.

Here is a video after a 75 mile drive to see if it changed to see if it may be a cold condition. Any Thoughts.

Your two videos sound the same to me. Your tapping is louder than mine (maybe? Hard to gauge from videos). Mine is at dealer now. Initial assessment they say pump is fine but maybe valve train noise. Diesel tech will check it by tomorrow with a better diagnosis.

Both videos sound similar to me too. The "thumping" is a little more pronounced in the first video but the "rattling" sound the same.
My truck doesn't seem to have that thumping sound but it does have that rattling,,, maybe not quite as loud as yours. My local Chevy house says, "It sounds like a diesel." It didn't sound like that when new but after a few hundred miles it started rattling like the early Ram Cummins. Chevy sez it's normal.

The diesel tech at my dealer says everything is good to go functioning normally. He said the noise is coming from the high pressure injection pump but it is not cause for concern and is present on all of the trucks coming through his bay. He also measured the viscosity of the diesel in my tank which showed a bit higher than what he expected for #2 diesel which could also explain a noisier pump because it was working harder against a thicker fuel. Either way, they recommended no further action and just drive it. The only recommendation was use only number 2 diesel fuel. No biodiesel, no r99 renewable diesel. Hope that helps. I took it in mostly to get a paper trail in case something shits the bed after warranty so that I have a leg to stand on.

i’m replying to this as it won’t let me respond to my thread. the dealer that i WORK at said that ny hp4 is failing and i need to replace asap which i couldn’t believe at 53k. took it to a diesel shop and they said it was fine and its normal noise for the pump. the dealer said 2300 and i used that money to get t and d. so the stealership isn’t always trust worthy i’ve been fine for the past 4k miles too since the diag
