Last December I put a set of Cooper S/T MAXX 265/75R16s and the truck.
For a good while after, if there was any steering change, as in lane change or dodging a tire-gator, there would be significant fish tailing.
I just rotated the tires and it has started all over again.
Is this just a characteristic of this kind of tires? I know the sidewalks are softer than just highway tires.
Thoughts?

I take it empty bed? Gotta be careful in pickup weight is offset, front heavy and rear wheel drive. The tires on the rear now have less tread depth than front? Air pressures?

Yes, empty bed. Tires on the rear actually have more tread now. PSI is up around 60# although I haven't checked them recently. I typically run a higher psi for fuel mileage.

A lot of tread designs, when new, have that squirmy feel at first, until they wear down a bit....makes you think they didn't get all the lug nuts on and tight.

Have you tried the chalk test on 'em, perhaps you're off on the psi, + or -, from what you ran before on different tires?

The psi, I think, is about the same as before. I'm not familiar with the chalk test though.
But it may all be the tread height since I had the same issue as when I went from highway tread to these hybrids.

The shocks are original...how much can that play into it

Stock shocks can be flimsy in as little as 40-50k.

The chalk test involves drawing a chalk line across the tread, from inner to outer sidewall. Then, drive down the street, and inspect the line.

If the chalk remains in the center but not out on the edges, you're too low on pressure.

If the chalk is gone in the center, but remains on the outer edge, you're too high in pressure.

An even chalk wear across the whole line drawn, perfect tread footprint where all of the tread is contacting the pavement...max traction.

10-4

I'll do the test.

On the shocks...I'm gonna replace with 5100s soon.

Thnx.

I suggest to start with 60 fronts and 50 rears tires cold when empty.
This psi has worked on every tire I’ve put on my 3500, I’m on my 5th set.
Below is picture of the chalk test, I use sidewalk chalk it’s wider.
Find something like a large flat parking lot, mark and drive 100-200 yards, check the chalk wear pattern.
Even wear across the tire good, center worn off psi a little high, outside edges worn off low psi.
Just like hook’em mentioned.
