I will always tell the truth. But, I can only talk about what I know. You are correct that I know nothing about aftermarket clutches or chips or anything like that. So, folks should only ask about Allison requirements, specs, oils, etc. and not about aftermarket performance add-ons because I never tested them.

PS: I was always well respected by the oil and additives industry for my contributions and my engineering abilities. Telling the truth was never an issue. I'll always say when I don't know the answer to a question and I'll try to find an answer if I can get input from one of my old friends at Allison.

I respect you as well Tom. I know what you did as I have contacts. TranSynd is the best fluid although I have a special place in my hart for Citgo 295 fluid.
If I was going to tow and beat my Allison with heavy duty use day in and day out I would only use TranSynd. For the above mentioned uses there is NO substitute.

I am new to this forum as well and have little experience when it comes to mechanics, but I'm willing to learn. I have an 06 LLY with the Allison 1000 and just over 85K miles. I have had zero problems with my truck. I use Amsoil and change the oil and filter every 5000 miles. I have been told that I change the oil too much. But, I figure oil is cheaper than an engine. I am considering doing a tranny flush and have had different opinions. Some have said just change the spin off filter and refill the trans. I have even been told that Allison does not recommend a flush. I am also considering using Amsoil Low Viscosity Synthetic (ATLQT).
I would like it very much to get the straight scoop from a professional such as yourself.

welcome!...i believe you will be a great asset to the forum and i see many debates coming up...lol

like bud mentioned i am wondering the same thing...there is a general consensus that flushing the transmission with a machine is not good for Allisons, but many people on here use the "hoot method"...many just drain and refill...what are your thoughts and suggestions?

I don`t have a clue what fluid is in my tranny and want to change it just to be safe. It has 175,000 on it. Can I just drain it and replace the filters and refil and if so what would be the best fluid. I drag it once in a while and tow my 28 ft trailor with the drag car in it and it`s an everyday driver. Thanks for any input. Steve.

this doesn't pertain to your question but fyi your lb7 does not have a dpf..at most it'd be a cat or a muffler

USAFDuramax,

Put TranSynd in it if you're running standard production clutches. It's the best thing you can put in it and will give you the longest life. Drain it, change the spin-on filter, put in TranSynd, and you're ready to go. I'd do a double drain and refill to get the most TranSynd into the unit. Put it in, drive it around for a 1/2 hour or so, drain it and reinstall TranSynd.

PS: I'm also USAF veteran (USAF 1968-1972). Special duty. Stationed at RAF Bentwaters (UK) .... "cold war" nuclear deterant base just off the English Channel.
