"Dump in seal repair" rarely does anything good for you. You're better off replacing the seal. It's time consuming, and sucks... but better than buying a new diff....
Where is it leaking?? By where the CV shafts bolt up?
they are easy. just turn the wheel all the way to the left and unbolt the cv shaft at the diff. work the cv shaft off of the stub shaft that goes into the diff and let the cv hang. use a decent sized hammer and knock the stub shaft out of the diff (usually a hammer works but you might need a pry bar too). remove the old seal with a seal remover and clean the seal surface and make sure it isnt damaged. then install the new seal with a seal driver (or very large hub socket that will fit on the lip of the seal) and a hammer. install the stub shaft and bolt up the cv shaft and youre done!
what does a seal remover consist of? im pretty good around tools just never delt with this type of equipment before. by the way hows the weather in denver used to live 25 miles from there in conifer. now in havre mt it hasnt been much above zero here for a month lol
any seal puller similar to that will work. im sure you can buy them pretty cheap at most parts stores.
the weather here isnt too bad right now. its been in the 50's the last couple days. we havent gotten much snow down here but the mountains have been getting pounded. im glad its not that cold here lol.
Sorry... was away from my computer after you responded... I agree with keyser... just knock them out and pop some new ones in.
You should be able to get a seal tool at your local auto parts store. I think they even have a seal installation tool, but you can use a large impact socket to knock it in too.
make sure it is not the diff vent plug , if the cap/plug is black there is a new updated white plug it is what the breather hose hocks to it is higher then the axle seals and when they leak it looks like the axle seal
good thinking it does seem to be leaking there and running down over the axle seal. can i get the updated one at napa or do i have to go to dealer for it?
i would just get it from the dealer it not that exspensive if you have some liquid teflon sealer , put some on the threads before you install the new one , just be care not to cross thread it
perfect sounds good, the help was much apreciated guys... thanks
