Good morning

It's my first post and I'm skipping the editing of my profile for now.

Got a 2011 Silverado 3500....diesel. It has mud flaps.

Not sure why, but I began smelling fuel yesterday after having used the heater for the first time.

Last night when shutting off truck I noticed a bit of smoke coming from hood on passenger side. I think there is something loose..[filter?] and I can't do any dealer stuff on Sunday.

So I read the manual and go look under right front fender....
where the heck to I start to remove the cover to inspect the filter area..and do I have to remove the mud flap too?

Thanks in advance for answers.

I don't know about the 2011s but my 06 3500 has the filter up beside the passenger side valve covers. As far as a leak, look and see if the white plastic plug on the bottom of the fuel filter is leaking. It is the water in fuel sensor and they leak sometimes. Mine did at less than 5k on it when new. if that is where it is leaking then you might have to remove the filter to tighten it or fix the drain plug it has on the bottom. I have always changed the filter from up top with no problem.

Thnx John

I'll see if i can look down from under the hood. Stuff is packed in pretty tight in there.

I'm concerned about fire.....the exhaust is right there.
