OK its been far too long since I was a tech. But I still try to fix my own car problems. My 2007 Chevy 6.6 is in pristine condition with 171 K miles. I woke up a few days ago to find my fuel gauge totally inoperative. The low fuel light is on and I know it has at least 3/4 tank. I verified this by topping it off already. So I’m not sure where to start on diagnosing where the problem lies. Should I start at the tank harness or at the cluster? Thanks for any help….

I'm no expert

I would start by checking fuses then start at the tank and work back. reason why is the tank area is exposed to the elements and likely to be where any short or corrosion will show up first

What's the gauge doing? When I've had fuel gauge issues in an '07 and a '12, usually after extended periods of sitting, the gauge would swing past full and just sit there.

The stepper motors don't like to sit for very long without moving. I never had an issue when I was driving the trucks daily.

Not sure about a test procedure. I think they're so cheap, that it may just be the place to start. And it's 4 soldered pins to remove and replace.

Thanks I’ll try that.

Most likely going to be your sending unit, mines been off since I bought it 5 years ago Lol. There’s some diagnostic procedures to check the until at the tank but I’ll have to post it when I’m off work.
