Give me reasons not to buy a Duramax

Hey everyone. My name is Jason and I currently own an '04 1500 Silverado and have been thinking of moving up to a diesel for some time. The main reason I haven't yet is the fact that it's a want and not a need. I've been around Dodge and Cummins for a number of years and love the engine but have never been impressed with the truck or the drivetrain like I am with GM.

Anyway, I thought that by doing a little reading and talking I'd find out whether I really want to go the diesel route or not. :drink

Reason number one not to buy a Duramax.........Uhhh I cannot think of any reason not to. If you want a truck that will do mountains more than your 1500 and probably get better fuel economy doing it then go with the Dmax. I would not trade mine for the world. Your resale will stay high as well.

About the only real pulling I do is when I move from place to place every three or four years. Then it requires a nice pull across a few states or so usually. I've had four 5.3's and they've all pulled well I suppose. I've pulled with Duramax's before though so I know just how nice it is to have the extra power and handling with a 6k-8k lb trailer.

I've got four kids too. Finding a crew cab that has cloth with the jump seat in the front is a pain too. Everyone has leather buckets these days. I've got them in my truck and my Suburban as well. Kids are hard on leather.

Pics like this don't help me at all either, lol.

06 LBZ, 20X10 Eagle's, 33x12.50 Toyo's, leveled.

I just spent 5 minutes trying to figure out reasons not, and I have nothing for you. I did come up with 20 or so reasons in a matter of seconds why you should though.

I got my 06 LLY a month ago; moved up from a Tunda (04) and I tow a trailer with ATVs or bikes. On flat it did ok but I take pases now in 6th gear without a sweat. Looking for a toyhauler soon-maybe- and the DMAX allows me to grow into heavier loads/toys. I love it even just driving it to work.

well for me, farming in the summer will be a lot easier now. and I can pull all my friends bikes along with mine instead of taking 2 or 3 trucks to the tracks. Im with the others i cant come up with many reasons not to buy one. It took me one drive of taking my buddy to work when he lost his job and let me drive his 03. Rediculous power compared to a gasser and when I used an 06 dually to pull a horse trailer i couldnt even tell it was there.

Does one need a Ferrari? Does one need a $20k watch? Half the trucks here are probably hot rods and not work vehicles. The real question is..... Do you want one bad enough?

no reasons not to buy a dmax once you own one you cant remember life without one. Every now and then i drive my old ladys 1500 5.3 and it feels like a powerless pos and i used to think it ran strong, well it does compared with a ford lol

#1 reason not to buy a Duramax. If you buy a Duramax, you won't be happy with a gas engine truck again.

Heres a good reason your gas v8 is most likely getting around 13/16 mpgs?? My 6.6 turbo diesel that has more power is getting around 18.5/19 all around

Jason, you know that feeling you get when a bad-ass Diesel powered truck passes you like you're standing still in your lil gasser?

It's going to continue to happen to you, until you get a Diesel Truck.

Just go drive one of your buddies, I bought one in 05 after my 04 quadrsteer denali (with 6.0, piggback ecu, straight pipes, intake, and 4.10's) got it's capp peeled back by friends lb7 with a superchips. I am now on my 3rd dmax and will never own another gasser! Plus when and if you sell, you always get the extra money shilled out for the diesel back!

Plus when someone pisses you off you can black smoke the hell out of them!!!!!!! Try that with your gasser. HAHA
