nope, the issue is with the block, not properly treated by vendor, therefor all costs will trickle back
Genuinely curious.....who does the heat treat? Do the blocks still come from Defiance?

My build date was Feb 7, 2022. I had a vin#. Salesman called and said truck was recalled and they will be giving me a 2023 at the 2022 price.
Do you know if the GM Recall website has your VIN listed as recalled yet? Or was this just inside info your dealer only knows about?

From what I understand GM Defiance builds the engine but Neue Halberg Guss foundry from Germany does the block and heads.
I think Defiance stopped grey iron casting 2016-2017 and Neue Halberg took over at that time with CGI Casting which is supposed to be a better material, smoother, less wear, less heat treatment required. This info is based on my personal research on the internet and the internet never lies :devilish: 😂 😂

Below is a statement from another group and this guy seems more engineering minded then I am to the casting processes :

Same here.

“Thank you for reaching out. As of November 2021, we are no longer able to provide this information. However, you can purchase a copy of the vehicle invoice (documentation of the vehicle cost broken out by model and factory options) by visiting www.gmmediaarchive.com. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.”
I just heard back from socialmedia@gm.com about the exact build date of my truck, which is the only bit I could not get myself. They didn't charge me and were extremely polite in their reponse...FYIW

Wait didnt GM get bailed out by me/taxpayers?

I did afterall pay $80k for a truck all I ask is information about when the damn thing was built so I can monitor GM to ensure my investment isnt overlooked on a defect that was caused by GM? Maybe this is why I left working for GM 25+ yrs ago, and parked the last GM vehicle to sell for $500…Its about ethics for me, treat your customers like they are your friends, not blood for you to feed on. They will always come back, otherwise….

Guess I should have stayed with Toyota, is that what you are really trying to tell me? Come on, I am just asking for information on something I paid them handsomely for, why withhold it and charge me? Didn’t they get enough profit on my $80k truck?
In the spirit of keeping it civil, I heard back from GM...they were extremely polite and provided the information I was not able to obtain myself at no charge!!! I feel like I have a friend in GM!! No charge, great attitude and I am very much appreciative of their help!

[Qtand GM Defiance builds the engine WRONG!!!!! the engines are assembled in moraine ohio, defiance is a casting plant, yes the issue is from Germany
Thank you for correcting me on that, I reread my first line and slapped myself, You are absolutely correctly, DMax in Moraine builds the engine, i got my wires crossed and typed the wrong name. thx

I am Absolutely with you on this. To replace the engine on this truck requires basically a complete disassembly to the frame from the bed forward minus the fenders if i'm not mistaken, all the electrical and connecting lines for everything being disturbed with miscellaneous lifting devices that happen to be available in the shop vs the precision of robotic arms during assembly. I would not want my original back either. Just my opinion. Like some on here I just took delivery so I'm hoping I'm not on the list anymore then the next guy but glad there doing something about it. Line @viper8315 said, it happens, Dodge has buyback going on also due to safety issues related to window defrosting, yay
Cheaper just to buy back

Actually... they took loans... same as ram... and the loans were paid back early

WOW Im only 600 away from that vin. I have 190 miles on it. This makes me about sick. After a 4 month wait and finally getting it. But Id rather lose it now than have big problems down the road.
So I took delivery of my 2022 Dec 7,2021 and lookin at the vin I'm 16,000 away. I may be ok... I have heated steering wheel and seats and want to keep those...

everything has Insurance, just ask the corvette plant. Cheaper to buy back, crush, collect check, build again = less headache for all

Have to remember vin # don't mean much in this case. Build date is more than likely more important to the batch of engines. I believe Usmarine is correct when he said this is most likely contained to a small batch. Seems like sometime in the first quarter 2022 is the issue. Think you'll be fine. But we'll see as this unfolds. Putting it another way mine was build March and i'm not worried.

Contacted the dealer from where I bought my truck. They claim they have never heard of this issue, and I was the first to bring it to their attention.....

I contacted my saleman,he said they have heard the news, and if I am on the Vin list, then the Service Manager will be making the call to me. I told my salesman For once I hope my phone doesn,t ring from your dealership and I don,t get e-mail either. On a side note you could have your dealer go to gmauthority.com and read it for him self about the buy backs.

I got lucky and found a new truck that was to be delivered to dealer April 1-15th. Got a email from dealer on 4/15 he said that GM had ordered a stop sales and return on 700 built trucks and mine was one of them, but the silver lining was that these trucks will be built in the next 60-75 days and will be shipped to dealers ASAP. My fingers are crossed on this right now.
