Curious if anyone is using gm trailer tire pressure sensors with a long 5th wheel. 40’. If there is any issues with connectivity due to the distance? Thank you.

Factory sensors go to 102 psi. And I agree, I would like the sensors to go up to 110 or 120 psi as well, but realistically it really doesn’t matter as long as you know that they have dropped to below 102 psi that is when you should be concerned. Also, I run my sensors on a 30 foot gooseneck and every great once in a while it will lose connection. I would be a little concerned about using them on a 40 foot trailer.

Thought I might revisit this. Saw on FB a discussion about TPMS. Someone posted there are different GM sensors which I know. The interesting part is the 4T sensors which go in the trailer tires goes upto 101 psi. Supposedly there is a 4T+ supposed to go up to 148 psi. Anyone heard of this? Searching for 15 minutes didn't result in any information.

I have the 4T+ sensors for higher pressure trailer tires on a 40ft 5th wheel toy hauler. My tire pressure is 110psi cold. they work fine. Every once and a while they will disconnect since I'm at the max distance of 23ft for the sensor receiver which is behind my license plate on my 23 GMC Sierra 3500HD. However, I just press enter button on the steering wheel when I get the warning. GM does not offer a signal booster at this time.

I just installed these sensors into my trailer and connected them to my 2020 Silverado. All my tires are reading 102, also, I could only set desired trailer tire pressure to 100 psi do I need to get some sort of update to get these sensors to work properly and show the correct values on my display?

Wanting to follow up on the 4T+ discussion (pn: 13545366).
The identification on it says “4T + EAC” what is the EAC stand for? Also is the PN listed in my post compatible with a 2022 2500 that has the advanced trailering package? Just want to double check before I take my trailer to the tire shop for installation.

GM did a very lousy job at helping people navigate through this.

Thank you in advance

Depending on the year of the truck there may be updates required to make the higher pressure sensors work.

New Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors Offer Increased Capability
May 23, 2023
The trailering app (RPO ZL6) available on 2020-2022 Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD/3500HD, Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks includes Trailer Tire Pressure and Temperature Monitoring. (Fig. 1) As part of the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System (RPO PTT), four additional tire pressure monitor sensors are included for use on up to four trailer tires.
As part of the system, the Trailer Tire Pressure Module (TTPM) and Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors (TTPS) are designed to read up to 100 PSI.

For trailer tires with a higher tire pressure specification, new TTPM and TTPS parts are now available that broadcast a signal up to 147 PSI. (Fig. 2) A new calibration for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) will enable the higher signal to be displayed on the Driver Information Center. Replacing the trailer tire pressure components is a customer pay alteration.

Different Model Years, Different Requirements
Different model years feature different trailering components and software. Depending on the model year of the vehicle, the following components and software updates are required to update the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System:
2020 Model Year Vehicles — Replace both the TTPM and sensors and then update the IPC software to V168 or higher.
2021 Model Year Vehicles — Replace both the TTPM and sensors and then update the IPC software to V164 or higher.
2022 Model Year Silverado 1500 LTD, Sierra 1500 Limited Vehicles (RPO J21) — Built prior to December 1, 2021 — Replace only the TTPM and then update the IPC to the most current software. Later vehicles already have the new TTPM.
2022 Model Year Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500 Vehicles (RPO J22) — Do not replace the TTPM or sensors. Ensure the IPC software is V164 or higher.
2022 Heavy-Duty Trucks — Built in Flint prior to October 1, 2021 — Replace both the TTPM and sensors and then update the IPC software to V164 or higher. Do not replace the TTPM or sensors on vehicles built in Oshawa. Ensure the IPC software is V164 or higher.
If necessary to update the system, replace the TTPM, located behind the license plate, and follow the relearn procedure for the module. (Fig. 3)

When installing the new Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors, make sure the air passage of the sensor faces away from the wheel and the sensor is flush with the wheel surface. (Fig. 4)

Finally, be sure to follow all recommended programming procedures when updating the Instrument Panel Cluster software.
Refer to Bulletin #22-NA-172 for more information and part numbers.

My 2022 2500HD came with the 4T+ sensors. I ordered the Nichols .625" stems. Putting them in the 5th wheel tires today. Hopefully the truck will recognize the 110 PSI on the tires.

Here are some closeups of the Nichols/4T+ sensors:

When I went into the relearn process, it asked what PSI should be set, it said “enter value up to 143PSI” so I must have the latest infotainment software too. I’m all dialed in, truck is reading PSI and temp from all 4 sensors in a 14 ply G rated tire. (I had the shop fill to 95psi) I’ll boost them up to 110 when they are cold.

Can you explain your process after installing the trailer tire sensors? Do they need programming from dealer or is this something I can do myself with a relearn process on truck

I installed my sensors a couple weeks ago, my 5ver is 40ft. Truck picked up the sensors right away on the set up. I will be making a trip in a week, see if they are still picked up or not. I used a TPMS learning tool off Amazon vs letting air out of the tires.
