Curious if anyone is using gm trailer tire pressure sensors with a long 5th wheel. 40’. If there is any issues with connectivity due to the distance? Thank you.

I have a 30' bumper pull trailer and don't know the distance to the rear trailer axle but would expect to be in the same range as a ~35' 5th to my axles and I do not have any connectivity issues. I did try to use a TPMS learning tool but it did not work, its a new tool so either its defective or it was too far away - don't know. I used the let air out method and all is good...

You guys crack me up. So some people have trouble staying connected, some people don't. If you have problems the fix has been discussed. If you don't hurray! Stop with the petty trolling of each other.
On the other hand, I also bought the relearn tool off Amazon. $6 delivered overnight. Worked perfectly. First wheel took a little long to get to the honk. Went to the next wheel and bingo done, next two went just as quick. Going out again this weekend and will let you know if I am in the "stay connected" group or in the "gotta extend the cable" group.

2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD. Same issue as Chucky12 and many others. I was able to get the sensor closer to the rear tires of my Outdoors RV 29 TRX. Then the programming worked. But the sensors don't pick up after putting the truck back under the trailer tongue. Distance from trailer tires to hitch is 27'. @Chuck12. Will you make me a 10' and ship it to me? I'll pay you.

I just measured the distance from my plate to the rear tire on my 37' fifth wheel and it's 23'.

3k miles on my fifth wheel since I got the tpms sensors installed on it, zero issues, and I check the tires often while traveling, they are definately working. I'm not saying other people aren't having issues, I'm just posting my own experience.

johndell's trailer (above) is a foot SHORTER than mine, but the distance from plate to rear tires is 4 foot longer.

I'm curious as to what happens when you Unplug your harness from truck. I found that when I unplugged the cable it lost all the oinfo and I have to reset up the system again That module is powered with 12 volt power even with no key in truck So by breaking the power to the module everything needs to be relearned What is your experience?

I think that must be due to something in the process you are using for the profile set-up.

You should not lose the trailer setups when the trailer(s) are not connected to the truck.

System is capable of saving the information for multiple trailers (I forget the exact number it can handle, but I have 4 saved in mine).

(fwiw, they transferred from my previous truck to the current one - without me doing anything. Onstar I guess)

I think your idea is good. I tried a setup like that. And I discovered that it seems to lose all of the information stored as soon as he disconnected the cable to the trailer where antenna is now located. What is your experience.

As soon as I disconnect the truck and then reconnect up the truck again. Plug in the cable I have to reprogram sensors all over again

I discovered wiring diagram that 12 V DC power goes to. That antenna box that was originally mounted behind the license plate.
And it is constantly powered even with truck off

However, as the distance to the sensors is very close, it does program very easily and quickly with the tool. But I find it annoying that I would have to constantly reset it up every time the truck disconnected and the plug removed.

What is Your experience?

Would it be possible to splice in 12v from the camper?

Hmm interesting

Could be profile setup issue who knows

I do know I spent 100k on a pickup truck

I do like the truck

I do not like the poor thought on the whole trailer tpms
Lack of insight as to range from receiver behind plate

Shipping valve stems incapable with large trailers because they use .625 inch holes

I can believe they got it wrong with first release in 2019 to 2023

But sadly nothing changed yet I got 2024 sierra hd OMG GM WTF !

I have a GMC 2022 2500HD, I have the right TTPM and the right TTPS (Sensors) But the Instrument Control Panel in the truck only goes up to 100 psi.
I have had it in the shop to update the ICP but I’m still getting only 100psi.
The dealer says the sensors need to be in the tires before the icp will give correct psi.
I wonder if they GMC did not do the update correctly. Can anyone tell me th

There are 2 versions of the (TTPMS) trailer tire sensors.

New Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors Offer Increased Capability
May 23, 2023
The trailering app (RPO ZL6) available on 2020-2022 Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD/3500HD, Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks includes Trailer Tire Pressure and Temperature Monitoring. (Fig. 1) As part of the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System (RPO PTT), four additional tire pressure monitor sensors are included for use on up to four trailer tires.
As part of the system, the Trailer Tire Pressure Module (TTPM) and Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors (TTPS) are designed to read up to 100 PSI.

For trailer tires with a higher tire pressure specification, new TTPM and TTPS parts are now available that broadcast a signal up to 147 PSI. (Fig. 2) A new calibration for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) will enable the higher signal to be displayed on the Driver Information Center. Replacing the trailer tire pressure components is a customer pay alteration.

Different Model Years, Different Requirements
Different model years feature different trailering components and software. Depending on the model year of the vehicle, the following components and software updates are required to update the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System:
2020 Model Year Vehicles — Replace both the TTPM and sensors and then update the IPC software to V168 or higher.
2021 Model Year Vehicles — Replace both the TTPM and sensors and then update the IPC software to V164 or higher.
2022 Model Year Silverado 1500 LTD, Sierra 1500 Limited Vehicles (RPO J21) — Built prior to December 1, 2021 — Replace only the TTPM and then update the IPC to the most current software. Later vehicles already have the new TTPM.
2022 Model Year Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500 Vehicles (RPO J22) — Do not replace the TTPM or sensors. Ensure the IPC software is V164 or higher.
2022 Heavy-Duty Trucks — Built in Flint prior to October 1, 2021 — Replace both the TTPM and sensors and then update the IPC software to V164 or higher. Do not replace the TTPM or sensors on vehicles built in Oshawa. Ensure the IPC software is V164 or higher.
If necessary to update the system, replace the TTPM, located behind the license plate, and follow the relearn procedure for the module. (Fig. 3)

When installing the new Trailer Tire Pressure Sensors, make sure the air passage of the sensor faces away from the wheel and the sensor is flush with the wheel surface. (Fig. 4)

Finally, be sure to follow all recommended programming procedures when updating the Instrument Panel Cluster software.

GMC 2022 Sierra 2500HD
Issues with Trailer tire monitoring system and I cannot get the ICP (Instrument cluster panel) to read over 100psi. My dealer said they did the update but it still will only go to 100 psi. does anyone know if the ICP needs to work 1st (go to 147) before it will see 123psi or do the sensors need to be in the trailer tires.

You will be wasting your time...I put mine below the hitch where it had clear sight with no obstruction from the license plate and it would only work for 10 minutes...as soon as I made a turn, it would lose the signal....just make the extension...you will be glad you did...(its not hard)....order these ends... and some 18 gauge 4 wire cable.....
