I was driving around with some of my buddies in my dmax when I see a beat to hell 12v blowing a TON of smoke. Well, being the S**thead I am, I speed up to catch up to him so I could blow his doors off (this town's cruise night has a large number of cummins, majority being beat to crap, stacks, smokin everywhere they go, etc.).

Well, I don't get far before I'm getting stopped. The traffic stop results in two tickets; one, no excuse for- excessive acceleration from a stop light; but the other.......EXCESSIVE SMOKE DUE TO DEFECTIVE MUFFLER.....WTF!?!?

My truck smokes for no more than half a second and that is only if I floor it from a dead stop....and even then it isn't much at all, but the officer told me I was the one that left that huge black cloud. And that it was illegal because diesel exhaust is NoX and sulfur and is bad for "babies and old people"

If he is so worried about soot then he should get in gear and start hitting those 12v's that smoke everywhere they go.

Hopefully it won't be hard to get out of this one.

ok first of all, this isnt a "bs ticket". I freakin hate it when people bitch about getting a ticket. 9 times out of 10 if you get a ticket its because YOU WERE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. Its not the cop "being a dick", you broke a law that you knew in advance and he called you out on it. Now some cops are more leinient as to what they will let slide, but the ones that arent "cool" and pull you over for little stuff are still justified because...well...you did break some rule. The "I got ticketed for tint, dont the cops have anything better to do like catch criminals" line is another one of my favorites. Nobody in the world can ever take responsibility for their actions and god forbid any of us guys admit that we did wrong.

He could have so easily given you 'wreckless driving', careless driving, stunting, etc but he DIDNT. He did you a huge ass favor whether you realize it or not. As for the smoke ticket, he probably thought that just giving you "excessive acelleration" wasnt enough punishment (because he didnt give you wreckless driving) so he just wrote you up for whatever else he could....excessive smoke.

The smoke thing isnt smart either. All it does is promote a bad image for us diesel guys and give the hippy tree huggers/EPA one more leg to stand on in their argument/fight to shut us down. You will never see me blowing smoke everywhere with my truck..

BTW the cop is right, diesel exhaust is loaded with NOx. Thats why the 2011 trucks run SCR.

This is still America, I will do what I please, not what pleases others. If they are "offended" oh well. And by not smoking, You are not helping so get off your pedal stool. The people that want these crap rules are going to get them, because they are more devoted to their cause of eradicating big cars and trucks. Not smoking is not going to "Help" with anything. Thank God for spell check. I finally got the finger from some hippy the other day. "Shut up hippy" window sticker must have offended him. I smiled and laughed at him. Then proceeded to smoke him out as long as I could as much as I could. If the sticker didn't make him cry, My smoke did. Welcome to the free world Communists
