 well i had a thread about how i wasnt sure if i had a bad head gasket or not, well now i know i dont,

i finally got down to the injectors on sunday, lets just say im not pleased at all,

heres the back ground on the truck, i bought it in august of 09 when i bought it the first thing i asked was were the injectors changed yet, he said yeah they were just done, so i assumed GM did them since it was still under warrenty, well after drivin down to Schied, i wanted to check all my fluids before i came back home, so i checked oil it was fine, went to check the coolant and after sittin all night it overflowed the tank when i opened it b/c of all the pressure so i was kinda worried but figured maybe it was just the hours of bein on the road the previous day, less then a month after i got it i noticed it was smokin quiet a bit at an idle so i emailed the guy i got it from to ask what shop did the injectors b/c they are either idiots or put in junk parts which still makes them idiots, he told me ohhh i got them off ebay and my dad put them in his dad is a wanna be mechanic  :booboo....fast forward to december, its smokin so bad at an idle its embarrasing at stop lights, and the low coolant light comes on so i add half a gallon or so adn its fine for awhile then it pops back on,

so i finally ordered my stuff a couple weeks ago and i started tearin into it on thursday, well i found so many wires not connected right, bolts not tight, and the rocker cover (lower valve cover) didnt have a gasket it was siliconed as well, all the rocker cover bolts were rounded out they put them in so tight, i had to use an air grinder and small cutting wheel to cut 2 of them out, and of course they were the hardest to get to, 1 on the pass side lower valve cover all the way in the back, and 1 on the upper cover on the driver side under my steering stuff,

but i got them out, found 2 inj return line screws that werer rounded out luckily they dont need to be too tight so vise grips got them off, so it was time to pop injectors out, i started on the pass side, the very first one i pulled was double copper ringed, the second one, pulled a cup, the 3rd and 4th had 1 copper ring so i think i still got one stuck in there, move to the driver side all 4 pulled cups w/ them, took them up to my buddies b/c i didnt know how the cups were supposed to sit and he said they were all double coppered b/c the cup was sitting really low on them all

im hopin i can get some of the cups off and save the injectors, i have his 8 stockers and my 8, out of 16, 6 have cups on them

none of the other D-Max injectors are under the covers, idk why they did that w/ this one, just like powerstrokes, why would you even want to put wires and wire hook ups in oil thats just not a good idea, plus it sucks to change them

yeah thats my thoughts as well, im gettin a 12v so its gonna be pre owned obviously but my god atleast stuff like this cant really happen and if it does so what, the injectors are cheap, and easy to change
So what you are saying is one or more of the cups were leaking? If so I would be very happy as it is alot easier to do injector cups than head gaskets:D

PS remember to let the cups sit for 24hrs so the locktite can sure before you fire it up:drink
Oh also did the injectors that were in the cups that pulled look like crap "burnt oil"? I pulled 3 cups doing my injectors, and all 3 were stuck because of the top O-ring not being pushed into the cup right. It allowed the oil to cake on the injectors, which in turn locked them in the cups.

Just make sure when you put the new ones in that you put a thin coat of oil around the top of the cups, so the rubber O-ring on the injector slides in and keeps the oil out this time:D
yeah, they looked like crap! none of them were done right, im gonna let them soak in diesel for a few days and see if i can get the cups off,

I was told not to reuse the cups after they have been pulled. If you really just want to cups off, you can put them in a vise "upside down" and heat the cup with a torch. The goo will come bubbling out, which in turn will release them from injectors. If it is for core sake, just leave them and send them back that way "cups stuck on". It is better then doing anything that will wreck the injector and void your core!!

Also take a real good look at the ones that did not pull, as I had one that only pulled just a very tiny bit. I had to borrow Merchants puller to get it the rest of the out. Good thing I saw it as it would of been a real PITA if I did not, but found out once I put the new injectors in "coolant leak"!!!
what do new cups cost? that is gonna be the deciding factor,

as far as not reusing them, i was never told that,

They are like $24 each plus $2 for new O-rings. I can not remember where I heard not to reuse them, but if you clean them real good, I can not see why you could not. Just buy new O-rings. I just happen to have been at Merchant's getting parts, so I bought new ones.
ohhh thats not bad, my main reason for wanting them is b/c the injectors are bad in them just the cups are stuck, i want to get them off so i can get them tested and see how many of my buddies i need to use,

Got ya. You could be as lucky as me and get screwed on 8gm remans from Green Thunder for $1200:mad: Dude told me last Monday they were shipped, but have yet to show up. I went Saturday and spent a lot more just to get the truck back on the road, as I needed it. Hopefully Paypal can get my money back:banghead
there's only supposed to be one copper washer in each sleeve, make sure you get the return line seals too they're like 20 bucks for each side. and also locktite 272 is the stuff you want make sure that's the one you use. but once you get this thing running why would you want to sell it? it's virtually the only problem the lb7's have it would be stupid to jump into another truck now that this one is fixed right.

if that was me some one would be gettin an azz whoopin!, i got lucky i have a buddy thats an administrator over on dieselplace, he put 40% injectors in his truck and had his stockers still, so im gettin them tested and usning them, then i can just buy the ones of his i need,

yeah i know all about the injectors, and how they should only have 1 copper crush ring, as far as sellin it, im just not real impressed w/ it,
ok well i guess dad found somethin wierd out tonight,

i had 5 w/ cups on and 1 that was double crush ringed (copper ring)

he got 2 cups off so far, and niether of them had double rings, but both had messed up O-Rings so that may be why they didnt sit in the cup right!

also how much of that sealent is supposed to be in there? b/c my dad said there was alot, like pri more then should have been there, he said there was huge globs come out!

also out of the 2 he killed 1 cup, the other one he said has scratches in it from the channel locks, but he said it would pri polish back up, how do you know when not to reuse a cup?
if you're there already just replace them all at under 200 dollars, you would hate to have to tear everything back down for 20 dollars.

^x2...if you are going to do it do it right...id be pissed if i had to tear everything back down over something that could have easily been replaced as NEW and not have to worry about it.

I agree with both of you to a point, but here is my opinion.

Every cup you take out and reseal, the likeliness of one not getting sealed perfect "coolant leak:eek:" goes up. That is why I would not pull a cup that is already sealed in correctly. If there are any in doubt, I would pull them, clean the mating surface real good and put a new one in.
yeah the ones that didnt pull are stayin in!
Fellows... you guys are obviously tuned in. I just developed a spit out of my breather tube yesterday. I left the truck on a job site (shopping center parking lot) about 50 miles from my shop and wanted to get it together before I started work on it. Think it's going to be injectors?

It's on an 01... anybody know where I can find some breakdowns or manual?

You may know other threads to point me to... I didn't want to mess up your train of thought on this one.
Thanks:confused:
