Caveat emptor, buyer beware, about your best option is to send the truck out of state to a new auction. Or spend the $$$, to put it back to stock.
Send some pics ! Lol. I have a 2006 Chevy 2500hd that I just got that still hAs all emissions crap . Maybe we can trade 🙂I guys, I just got my first Duramax. It's a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500. I got it from the auction in MO. My buddy owns a dealership, so he was able to get it for me. He took it to get it smogged, and it did not pass. This is what the smog report said in the comments.
EGR removed, no EO for air intake,no catalytic converter, no EO # for performance tuner, Black smoke during BAR Snap Test.
ALSO: Missfire
So i did not know that the truck wasn't stock, nor did my buddy.
If i knew it has this stuff on it, I would have taken the Tuner and KNN intake off before the smog. If anymore can help with some other issues, that would be great. Thanks guys.

yup, even some of the 01 trucks had an EGR on them if they were built to California specifications. the 06 should have a cat and egr, but no DPF or urea.Call me dummy I didn't know an 06 had emmission crap
I feel your pain. My last two smogs I initially failed. One for the EGR readiness check which I had to go back to 100% stock. And this time I had put on the S&B turbo mouthpiece which doesn’t have an EO executive order. I would say your two biggest issues are with the cat and the EGR. Is the EGR just turned off in the tuner or is it removed altogether? Can’t tell from the pics what brand air intake you have but you can check the website to see if it is CARB legal in California. I would think the edge is carb legal.I guys, I just got my first Duramax. It's a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500. I got it from the auction in MO. My buddy owns a dealership, so he was able to get it for me. That is not true. I've got multiple people around here running K&N on their tuned Duramaxes and Powerjokes and Cummins with no issues. You have to install them CORRECTLY and NOT over oil them. Something not very many of you gearheads seem to know how to do, obviously given the issues you're encountering. Now- If you are pushing 600HP with massive massive air intake then yeah, a stock K&N filter is not going to cut it. But for factory stock with some decent tunes they work fine. K&N stands behind their products as well and have engineers and designers that know their crap.Register it in a county in your state that doesn't do emissions if this exist in any of your counties in your state.
Looking at your airfilter in your pictures, that needs to be trashed, get a new airfilter.
K & N is the worse choice for a turbo diesel, the filters are already a little to thin then they thin out even more overtime allowing to much airflow which usually leads to the P0101 code.
No offense. I just get tired of the bad rap a few yahoos out there give K&N when they don't know how to use it correctly. I've run K&N products in 2 prior Duramaxes, and several cars. They worked great. Their filtering does a good job as well. K&N is the only cold air intake I will use. I also use their drop in filters for existing stock filter boxes.
Yeah.... that is cool if you want to run them, do your thing. No offense. I just get tired of the bad rap a few yahoos out there give K&N when they don't know how to use it correctly. As a California resident, I feel your pain. I recently failed the readiness monitor portion of the test. All because the high idle/PTO switch was left on, which I never ever turn off because it turns the function off when not in park or the first time you hit the brake pedal.I guys, I just got my first Duramax.
