driving home today I heard a slight ticking when i hit the gas. turned the corner and the ticking is louder and the truck has very little power. when i step on it, it stalls and then takes off. oil pressure is about 40 and doesn' t move. changed the fuel filter about 1000 miles ago. what is the problem???? is the injector plugged?? what can i do...write back because i have a blackberry and will get the message right away. i can't sleep until i know what it is and what i can do thanks

check and make sure you dont have any air at your filter first by repriming it after you open the drain to make sure there is no water. Check air filter, add some fuel additive, turn your tuner off and see if it still happens. Did you just fill up maybe go some bad fuel? Beyond that it could be injectors lift pump or cp3 are my guess, but i am no expert just what I would check first.

I never changed the tranny spin on filter. I just started the truck again and it is worse. Truck shakes when idling.

are you getting any smoke (blue, black, white or grey) out of the exhaust at idle? what exactly were you doing when you noticed it(getting on the interstate, taking off from a stoplight)? have you gone over any rough terrain lately? that could have caused an air leak in the pickup tube. do you see any dripping fluids? do you smell anything out of the ordinary? did you install the high idle setup yourself or did a shop do it? is it a tick or more of a pop you hear? you said the oil pressure doesnt move at all. whats the temp outside? when did you change you oil filter last? what brand of filter? is there anything in the dirver info center or any kind of service soon warning light? you have 4"TURBO back in your sig, did you do it yourself of have a shop do it? i need details, without being able to see or hear it i gotta have good details. anything you can think of could help.

Couldn't see any smoke. The high idle is installed by shop. Exhaust in shop. I was just drivin when I heard almost like a exhaust leak that got louder and then I noticed the loss in power. It is about 25 degrees and I changed the oil and fuel filter about 1000 miles ago. Don't know what oil filter or oil was used. Shop installed all. Northing out of the ordinary of driving.

the exhaust leak you heard was it like the exhaust was falling off or like something was leaking past the turbo. sounds like the vane controller on the turbo(controlled by oil pressure) or the egr setup might have taken a crap. also shouldnt your rig still be under warranty? i dont know if it illegal to have the mods you have where you live but if the exhaust is not an issue i would pull your programmer and get it to your dealership, have them check it out. also has your filter lost prime at all, can you pump the primer if so take off you filler cap and pump up the primer then try to start it(dont forget to do 5 our fathers and 3 hail marys:)). make note of any burps of smoke on startup or any strange sounds, also listen for a hickup when it is turning over trying to fire. last thing to check is to make sure all your injector connectors, MAF sensor wire, and all the major conectors on the top of the engine that you can see are all plugged in correctly. keep me posted

it doesnt look like your do any off roading with your rig but you might look underneath and see if you have a kinked of smashed fuel line, mabey from going over a snow bank or something like that. also when you check your fuel filter, disconnect your batteries and let the truck sit for 15 to twenty minutes and throw a slow charge on your batteries during that time so the truck has good power when you go to hook them back up.

if she still shakes like a epileptic whore when you try to start it again, SHUT IT DOWN, pull your programmer and get it towed to a shop before you put tortion fractures in your crank. I find it strange that it hasnt given you a SES light. the other thing that crosses my mind might be a crank position sensor because if the injectors are misfiring due do lift pump issues or cp3 issues i know that would throw a code and give you a light, especially with as bad as you say it is shaking.

ok at this point if you checked the fuel system, reset your batteries and gave her a good prime and it is still doing it, i would say get it on a tow truck and get it to your dealership to havet it checked out. am i correct in assuming that your rig is still under warranty? hopefully they wont give you shit about your exhaust; i am assuming you removed the DPF.

also the cold should have no effect on a diesel blowing BLACK smoke. cold can cause it to blow either white(raw atomized fuel, from no ignition an one cylinder) or blue from a little oil that was left on the cylinder wall because the pistons have not warmed up and fully expanded yet. if you are puffing black smoke continuously at idle that my guess would be that you have an injector that is stuck in the wrong position or the tip has suffered some damage and is not atomizing the fuel correctly.

change the fuel filter AGAIN regardless of the miles............unless you are REALLY CERTAIN that EVERY drop of fuel you got is good, you really don't have a way of testing fuel so try that.ALSO check to see if the intercooler hoses are still in place, that'll make it miss and smoke like a train!
