….Filled up my DEF tank the 2nd of December and now have 1980 miles since….. Not yet indicating it’s time to add more DEF…. I drive very conservatively and about 1/2 of those miles are with a hard side TC in the bed; also use Walmart DEF… Will keep you updated as to total miles when the DEF tank is empty…

On My 2017, I'm not sure about the usage on regular driving, very little at most. I can go months without any indication. All I get is DEF - OK or DEF below 30% but once I hook my 7K travel trailer ill go thru a tank in a month. Like PapaJeep said I like to carry a spare DEF jug while on vacation just can't have it in the box during winter.

October 15: 142967 miles - 5 gallons added
December 28: 146231 miles - 5 gallons added

Total miles driven: 3,264
Lifetime fuel economy since July 2020: 13.36mpg
Fuel consumed: 244 gallons
DEF consumed: 5 gallons
DEF/Fuel: 2% of fuel consumption

I fill my DEF when the warning of XXX miles until 65mph warning comes up to try and keep a consistent reference point. I'm using the average fuel economy for the life of my ownership of the truck because that is representative of how I drive the truck. It makes sense in my mind.

Before I sold my dually I used to haul a Lance 975. Like you, I added a big wig anti sway bar and generic upper stable loads. The camper fully loaded was around 4,500 lbs. The truck handled that weight easily. I'm debating on what my next truck camping rig setup will look like. Gas vs diesel, srw vs drw, slide vs no slide lol.

Hopefully you'll be able to visit all of those places you listed. I'm ready for things to get back to normal...

Not the same truck, but my 15 LML currently has 22k on the clock and all it does is pull our 44' 5th wheel that stands at max height of 13' 6" and loaded weight in around 16k, depends on how the wife packs it. It gets anywhere between 9 and 11 mpg depending on speed and wind. Itll drink 5 gal of DEF every 4500, give or take a few hundred. I do the same, I wait until it says speed limited on next start up, but by then I have 5 gal on hand. This way I know the tank will take all 5 gal and not be overfilled or air burp a bunch of that corrosive shit out the fill tube and all over the place.

Just a heads up on the DEF fluid. Last summer I was traveling to southern Idaho and stopped at some gas stations to get DEF. I stopped at four in a row that were sold out of DEF. I finally found some the next day at an auto parts store. I have also found out the ACE Hardware stores carry DEF as well. I guess maybe it was one of those items that had shortages due to the China virus.

I know it's not as convenient, but try to fill up your DEF at a truck stop from a pump.
Currently about $4/gallon here in NJ.
Yes, DEF is definitely going up. Word on the street is there's a urea shortage. Guess what county makes 40 percent of the world's supply...yea, same place that gave us the virus.

Oh really...source??

I'm always interested in better data.

@redwngr , hmm, interesting, I guess I stand corrected. I searched for it the other day and my hits came back with China.
I'll look more later.

Everyone has gone prep-happy, perhaps with good reason. Wart-mark had only 4 on the shelves and they had dried DEF all over them… the platinum is over $22 and the blue is like $17… and these trucks must have it.

so, prep mode enable…

this seems like a useless place and time to mention.. but I brought up the thoughts of making our own DEF last year… might just happen…

necessity is a mother…

stash and fill up at truck lane when I get fuel.
