This is a great way to clean your injectors and improve your balance rates.
First go to your gm dealer and buy the GM upper engine fuel injector cleaner p/n 88861802, about 15 bucks. This CAN NOT be run through the fuel tank. To run this cleaner you have to use the quick disconnects at the rear of the engine.

1. Remove the quick disconnects at the rear of the engine, you will need a set of quick disconnect line tools. the return line is 3/8 and the suction line is 1/2.

2. Once lines are disconnected, install rubber fuel hose to the lines with hose clamps. You will need 3/8 hose and 1/2, about 5 ft of each.

3. use 1/2 gallon of clean diesel fuel and mix 13 oz. of the injector cleaner in a container (I used an old rotella 1 gal. bottle)

4. put both the return and suction lines into the container and place container out of the way of engine. (sat mine on a step ladder next to truck). you can set it on the floor but will need about 8-10 ft of hose.

5. start the engine, check for leaks. run all of the the diesel fuel in the container out, will take time. (mine sat at idle for 1.5 hours). if the truck dies, no big deal, just prime it once you reconnect the fuel lines.

6. once fuel is gone, reconnect the fuel lines, should hear a snap. and done. make sure to check for leaks when finished.

hope this helps some people. my balance rates are much better now, and the engine runs much smoother. maybe try this first if you think you have an injector going bad.

Im looking into running this GM upper engine cleaner through my fuel system as stated in the OP. I have a couple questions for someone who might know the answers:

Before doing this procedure, would it be best to change the FF before i run the additive through the system? Or should i change the FF after i run the additive through the system?

What is the benefit of changing the FF prior to running the additive through the sytem?

And one more question. (02 CCSB LB7 252,000 miles) I checked the balanced rates (in park up to operating temp) my worst injector was a +3.2mm ... I have no white smoke what so ever.. no fuel in my oil.. etc. I am concerned about causing it to smoke after running this cleaner through it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys!!:thumb

I know i need to use clean fresh diesel fuel... My questions is do i need to change fuel filter prior to running the solution through the system or after? Whats the benefit of changing before i run the solution.

And as of right now my truck doesnt smoke any white at all.. Do i take a chance at causing an issue if i run this cleaner? Such as causing it to smoke white... Thanks

I changed my filter first. Mine was about due anyways and my thought process was I didn't want the strong cleaner breaking down the build up in the filter possibly allowing some post filter. I do not believe it will cause your truck to smoke if it is not already.

Sooo.. i know you were asking about the fuel rail pressure earlier and I've found something rather interesting..

I literally just got done putting a brand new fuel pressure regulator on my truck- which f'n sucks BTW...

When i had the old regulator my truck would idle at around 8-9K PSI, but with the new regulator it sits perfectly still at 5K PSI and doesn't fluctuate is is soooo damn smooth now...

Ok, took it for a test drive.....great improvement...buttttt....still not what it used to be. #5 injector is between 5.0 and 5.3 now, way better than between 10 and 14 before the flush. Any other ideas on what else could cause the power loss?

I have one question about doing this, I deleted my stock filter setup when I did the air dog. I guess hooking in before the lift pump is my only option? I have a few that are borderline and one that at times can be as high as almost 7 but other times around 2.5

Soooo.... I'm getting my buddy at a GM dealer to bring me a bottle of the cleaner. All they have in their parts dept was the AC Delco P/N 88861803. Everything that I have read in my google searches show that this is the new part# replacing the GM P/N 88861802 from the pics on page 1! I just wanted to bring this up, maybe again....sorry if that is the case, but the thread is long and its been a few months since I read the whole thing! Is this the correct cleaner for this procedure? Just wanting to make sure! My $.02, its gotta be the same!

Yes, they have been revising the part number over time but that's the right stuff to do the DIY cleaning.

I do it every oil change now, which is 5k miles. It's not too expensive to do it more frequently... IMO.
