<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Though this is a GM recall and for most will be quite easy I took some pics the other day when I did mine.

Symptoms are a noise at highway speeds near the a-pillar(s). This noise is exasperated by a front bug shield.

The fix is to remove the two window trim pieces and add some 3M double sided tape. My noise is gone after the fix and I've got the bug shield.

Start by pulling off the rubber trim. Mine was on there pretty good considering all the dirt and grime 180k brings. At first I thought it might have some glue but it doesn't.

Next remove the 5 Torx screws holding the trim in place. *Note this pic was taken upon re-install when everything was cleaned up.

The trim is held on by the 5 Torx screws AND a small piece of double sided tape. I just pulled it off and didn't bother placing any tape back in that spot.

Image

Grab some detergent and a scrub brush and clean the trim pieces up. You can see here where the double sided tape is located from the factory.

Image

I then cleaned where the trim was removed as well, quite dirty under there.

Image

Brake Clean both the trim pieces where the tape goes and also the windshield and apply the double sided tape. I then re-installed the trim piece with all Torx screws. Next grab the double sided tape covering with some needle nose pliers and pull it out.

Pull out the tape covering and press the trim into place.

No more noises at highway speed!

I got around to this a few weeks back, damn it's nice to drive the truck at speed with out wind noise again.

I went ahead and did this a few months ago and i've still got some bad freeway noise on the passenger side, sounds like the top of the door trim. It's bad, almost impossible to have a conversation at highway speeds.... Going to take a look real quick and maybe do something about it before our trip out to the river today....

Probably a ridiculous questions but how do you guys attach the big rubber weather strip back onto the truck (the one that lies on top of the plastic piece) that you temoved in step one?

Maybe I read the steps wrong but I thought the tape went in between the windshield and the plastic piece. Maybe it goes in between the plastic and rubber?

The big piece is held back on by the 5 torx bolts. Unless I'm not understanding you correctly?

The tape goes on the windshield directly.

i meant the weather stripping that hooks on to the plastic piece....i just hadnt gotten into it yet (common sense i guess)

my road noise was reduced by probably 50%. its better but there is still some there....not sure what to do next

I used this fix on my 07 Classic. I now have an LML making the same noise. Does this fix work the same on the newer trucks?

Anyone had this not work or at least had to redo it? I did it about a year ago with no success. Absolutely drives me crazy every time I drive the truck. I'm about to start taping up everything to try and pinpoint the noise

I'm retarded. I put the tape on the actual metal, so it probably wasn't doing much. Just redid it on the windshield. Will see in the morning if not worked. Noise drives me near suicide.

For anyone still frustrated with this, I took my aftermarket antenna off and that was it. No whistle at all anymore. Need to get a stubby (that's what she said)

The factory was too tall for my garage door. This antenna x or whatever it was called I guess had some odd aerodynamics

Sub'd,

Also, anyone have the pic's of this fix. Wanna make sure I am thinking about the same thing.

Thanks

Hey folks.. are you guys talking about a whistling sound or the popping / cracking sound that's coming from the hard plastic trim piece? I'm in an '16 2500 and this drives me insane. I've had it back to the dealership once and they allegedly did something but it didn't do anything.. claimed to not be able to really hear it.. y'all know how that goes.

When comparing the way the door trim on my truck was designed compared to the new body style Yukon / Suburban it would seem pretty obvious that the way they've designed these trucks is dumb.

I'm still under warranty and am hoping I can get this maddening sound fixed before it forces me to trade vehicles..

When this thread was started, it was about the crackling/popping noise. That seems to have been the way the wind flows, especially over a bug shield (if not exclusively) and hits the windshield trim.

Do you have the whistling noise? My 2015 just started doing that. It is definitely the door, because I can push my fingers in to the top of the door and it stops. Very loud whistle, but only at 60-65 mph or better, and even then, the wind seems to have to be blowing just right and around 20mph or more.

I have to try this on my LML. That noise is driving me insane!! Can't always turn up the stereo to drown it out.

On my '15, I figured out all I have to do is tap the window down. It doesn't open and it doesn't create any wind noise. It just pulls the window back from full lock and the whistle stops.

On my '03, when the bug shield broke, the popping on the windshield stopped.
