I thought I would do a lttle write up on how to install some LED lights on your AMP Steps or Nerf bars or whatever your using. I was going to buy the AMP Research led kit, but it would of cost mee $200 for the kit and a new module that is required for the lights to hook into. So I saved myself about $180 and I think it looks just as good if not better than the factory ones.

First off the supplies I used, but you can suppliment in whatever lights you want to use.

4 LD1 lights from superbright leds
10-15 Ft Wire I used speaker Wire
Connectors T-taps, butt, eyelet etc.
2 Self taping screws small size
Zip ties

I went with the LD1 lights because they are very small and you can mount them just about anywhere. I took some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the area that I wanted to hook the lights to and then used the supplied double sided tape to attatch them to the truck.

I attatched the Positive and the Negatives of both LEDs together so I only had to run one set of wires up through the plug under the footwell.

After zip tieing all the wires underneath I removed the 2 panels below to access the wires.

Once you remove the two panels it's easy to pull up the carpet a few inches to get the wires through the plug. I then took one of the eyelet connectors and a self tapping screw and grounded the LEDs to the cab of the truck behind panel #1 from the previous pic.

Ok now for the power wire you need to run the wire to the box that you plug your trailer brake control into. Here is a link to what I am talking about.

Thanks SteepyBS for finding that.

Hopefully this will help anyone that is interested in lighting up there steps.:rockin

might use a fuse tap to tap into those lights at the junction box.

Was this a radio shack LED? just curious where you got these from? part number?

Looks really nice!

Never mind I just looked up and saw you already put that information!

Do they come on when you hit your unlock button?

This is a great way to do this. I installed the same lights that I put on mine and we hokked it into that wire. Now the lights go dimm like the interior lights. When I hooked into the door lights they just shut right off with no dimming so I am going to pull the wires and hook it into the black and grey wire.

Nice write up bro....Just bougt LED'S for my steps, this will make it easy now...:drink

UPDATE: The dimmer wire on a LMM is solid Grey. There are 2 Grey wires that are located on the BCM on the black plug. You can see them in the photos to the left of the Green wire. The BCM is located under the dash to the left of the brake pedal.

Just thought I would give a quick update on my lights since I have had a few people ask. My LED's that I used are holding up great. The doublesided tape is still holding and all the lights are still bright as ever. I have washed my truck a good 20-30 times and have driven in mud, water and salt and no problems as of yet. I figured for the price I ordered a few extras and they are still setting in my tool box just in case one goes out I can just splice it in and be ready to go again.

Nice update, Josh. I was able to get the Amp light kit on Ebay last summer (for some reason my low-ball opening bid was the only one). So, the install is next on my list.

Thanks for the motivation!

Thats good that you got it on a good deal. My nephew has the kit on his truck and I actually think that the way I set it up on my truck looks cleaner and brighter. He only had his on for about a month and all his little lights from the kit started to loose there stick and they were just hanging there. Hopefully you have better luck.

That's good to know. I'll try to make sure they get epoxied up there real good!

But I'll be keeping this thread handy, just in case.
