How & When to additive?

Brand new here. New owner of a 2022 Chevy 2500. My first Diesel, my first 2500. Already overwhelmed by information....
As far as additive, without getting into which one:
  • When do you add it to the tank? Do you just add based on how many gallons of fuel you're going to put in? I try and keep my tank as full as possible. So just put a couple ounces in each time I top off?
  • Best to add when you pump fuel? You keep the additive in your truck? Keep a measuring cup and funnel on you? I've only used it once and it stinks pretty bad. I'd hate to have a spill, even in the bed.
  • Is it OK to add when I get home?

I add when I get home, there is enough recirculation to mix. I don't ever want to spill any of the additives in my truck. That's just me.. BTW I have used Diesel Kleen since the truck was new.

Optilube XPD user here.

The full kit first purchase with a gallon includes two 8oz bottles and a pump. The pump is about an ounce per stroke of the pump.
I estimate what I think I'll need and bring a small bottle with me some of the time. I'll pour it in, then fill up. Some of the time I'll add it in when I get home. It's not super critical.
For your first application, you add enough fluid for a full tank of 36 gallons. Each fill-up after that is based on how much diesel you add.
Whenever I bring the fluid with me, I do put it in a zip lock bag to keep the smell down.
I run the additive year round, summer mix ratio in spring, summer, fall, and winter ratio in the winter.

I have been thinking about using the Nuetra since it's has more than 15ppm sulfur...

No DPF issues for us! ;)

Ive been using the AMSoil all in one this winter. Definitely only using enough to treat the amount of fuel I added, NOT for the entire volume of the tank. Once spring rolls around and the freezes are over I will use something without the anti-gel in it. But AMSoil says you can use this year round. An entire 16oz bottle is good for 40 gallons @ 2.5oz per gallon. Link below

I get winterized diesel in North Jersey and I'm still running XPD in every tank. Im not at the recommended 2:1 for winter but I'm about 8oz every 25g. Had a cold start the other day and fuel rail temp read 19 on my L5P when ambient was 9 - started right up with no issue

I use Opti-Lube with Cetane boost at every fill up since the truck was new. Because my truck has a 36 gallon tank, I just put in the amount as recommended for 36 gallons which ends up with a bit of additive overkill but I am OK with that.

As I live in FL, the summer Opti-Lube works fine for my application year round. I always put in the additive prior to fill up as I normally don't fill the truck until it is well below 1/4 tank. As of late, that $110 fuel bill at each fill up is a bit painful.

I keep the treatment, double freezer zip lock bagged, in my back seat upright storage cubby along with the container fueling funnel that came with the truck, I also keep an old baby bottle with a cap for measuring. Works great!

It really doesn't matter when you add it, either during fill or after fill since recirculation and sloshing from driving around will mix it quickly. The only thing I don't do is add it and then drive to the fuel station, I don't want to overconcentrate it by that much until I get diesel, and I only add enough (roughly) for the amount of fuel I'm adding except the first time I full dosed since none existed before then.

I use Hot Shots Secret, Every Day Treatment (Spring, Summer, Fall), Winter Anti Gel in Winter, and Diesel Extreme every 6000-ish.

Might be true if you have regular access to Top Tier diesel. GM doesn’t recommend aftermarket fuel additives (Of course they don’t).

In the 2021 Diesel Supplement manual, (beginning on page 21), GM specifically recommends AC Delco “Diesel Fuel Conditioner” if Top Tier Diesel can’t be used.

In Colorado (LOTS of diesel trucks here), there are only 2 fuel stations in the entire state that offer Top Tier Diesel (both are in remote towns far from Denver), according to www.TopTierGas.com and I even verified that info by contacting Top Tier directly.

So… it’s a valid issue of concern. These trucks are expensive. Just want to take proper care of it. Can’t fault the OP for that!

Yea sorry thats a lot of work and stuff to remember. Opti-lube XPD before i fill up every time and its nice and easy.

Any company can say anything. I personally tried nothing and my truck sounded like a diesel. The XDP's additive was better, but so far this Opti-lube XPD blend has made my motor feel the "smoothest" so far and has less of a diesel clank to it.

Don't forget, they are looking forward to jamming an electric truck down our throats in the coming years, ESG scores ya'll
So if that oil burner takes a crap, more money for them

The flip side to that is if they recommend something and something goes bad, someone will turn around and sue them because they recommended it etc. The diesel after market exists for a reason. I can whole heartedly tell you, as a first time diesel owner but life time gear head, my truck runs smoother and feels "softer" running this XPD over nothing - and i use top tier fueling station
