Jack up the front of truck OFF the ground...Then with NO weight on the front tires, try to rock them at the 12 and 6 o clock positions,,then again at 9 and 3...If you feel the wheel/tire/hub assembly has play in it,then you lookin at 600 bucks..That's if YOU do the labor, ask here if you need help, several guys have tackled it here.I check mine every time I rotate my tires..

Bad hub,or a wheel bearing is about to burn up.You won't know if it's the inner or outer bearing until you disassemble it..

Is it a 4x4???If so,then I forgot to tell you to check the t-case for ''pump rub''[basically a leak,due to design,easy fix:cool:]
Also be sure you have fluid in the front differential...Jus my 2 cents..

My Brother had a vibration sound from the front end of his LLY. Ended up being the caliper. I guess the pads are self centering riding along a bushing, from my understanding this allows the pads to wear and still brake properly.

He got a bushing kit and this seems to have fixed the issue.

This was a rattle and not a "humming" sound though... hope you find the issue!

i've noticed alot of 4x4's make a noise similar when goin down the highway under light acceleration then stops if u get off the throttle gotta have the radio off or down low to notice

Is there any real danger in driving a truck with a bad wheel bearing? Mine just started doing it and I'm saving to do both wheel bearings, all 4 ball joints? I havent had to do them on this truck yet, I drove my 1/2 ton for quite a while on a bad bearing and didnt have anything bad happen. Just curious

holy old thread batman! ;)

well your wheel could lock up going down the road. I would get at least one that is the worst done. I know some people go a long time without replacing them. Dmaxstore.com has them for like $200 shipped last time I checked. Those are the ones with the timken bearing too.

Well I'm only driving roughly 7 miles each way to work at 35mph, I did have it parked but pulled her back out of the garage so I can take it in to work and check the bearings, if it ends up not being the wheel bearings what else could it be? It sounds like my Nitto Terra's are super swampers

check your front differential for fluid...but I am betting you arent using 4wd right? I am betting it is a wheel bearing if you have never changed them and you have owned the truck for most of its life.

No the noise goes away when 4 wd is engaged, and I got her in 07, it looks like the pass side was done not long before I got it, has a nice shiny zinc coated cap and the drivers side(which I'm bettin is the bad one) has nothing just the castle nut

How cold was it when it started humming? Mine started making this awful whining noise one morning on my way to work, granted my mirror thermo read -28, turned out it was a fan that sits on the tranny evidently they do that when it gets really cold. Freaked me out!

Correction the drivers side was replaced and it was the passenger side that was bad, and I mean BAAAAAD! But the new Timken hub is in and my new beefy Fabtech tie rods are in too, now I just need an alignment in the worst way

i have this noise too but i was thinking it was my front pinion barring. It is VERY bad when in 4wd so i took my dif and cv axcles out to see if that was it. thought the noise/vibration went away but i think i can still feel it. Im pritty sure whatever it is it was cause by 4wd launches with a lift.

Would the hub barring be more noticable with a load on it if so mabe that is my problem.

I'm getting that same noise but in my rear diff. I did have a leak that could have caused low fluid and tried to keep up with it by adding and then resealed the cover, but I still get the noise. Could it be a pinion bearing?? Or the ring gear and pinion gear? Sorry I found that post and it was exactly what I have been hearing and could not find it via search bar.

Hey there, any solving of the problem?
My 07 classic is making similar noise.
swapped out for new hubs and cv axles both sides. still have noise mostly heard at 33 - 40 MPH

thanks
