I'm interested in 2020 GMC 2500 with the new tailgate. Is this model still a L5P? And is this information enough to know what aftermarket mods are compatible? Lift kits, tuners, etc.

Is there a way to know if the 2020 GMC 2500 is compatible with existing lifts, tuners, speedo calibrations, etc? Does merely being a LP5 indicate compatibility or incompatibility?

Mods here have decided the 20 is same as 17-19.

A way, yes.
And the answer is, yes and no.

2020, has the same RPO engine, L5P.
However, that's about the only thing on the '20s that is the same.
Trans, different
Axle, different
and so on....

Even the engine, although an L5p is still different from a 19. Some things are the same, some are different.

You mean it’s a GM product that will have a many recalls? Just different than the 17-19?

Even though the engine is still the L5P with the exact same performance specs, the frame and transmission on the 2020 are entirely new. That alone makes it effectively a new truck in regards to many after market parts. Many things on the 2020 are different and I would certainly research before assuming an aftermarket part is compatible. An email to the manufacturer should help you confirm compatibility.

I haven't done much research yet but I would assume everything is different. The truck is so much bigger than than the '13s (I own) and the '15s (brother owns) I haven't seen them side by side with the other l5p's but the fact the trans has 4 more gears would rule out tuners being the same. As for suspension I would not order until I was positive about compatibility I do know my suspension and my brother's suspension calls for different parts and they are both lml's. Hope you got what you needed from your questions besides the ridicule lol

What is published as different from its predecessors is the frame/suspension, which appears to be referred to as the vehicle "platform". Prior to 2020, the pickup platform was known as the GM T-K2, while the 2020 appears to be known as the GM T1 Vehicle Platform (2020 GMC Sierra HD Info, Specs, Wiki | GM Authority). I only made a cursory search for this information and would suggest perhaps using the word "platform" if you want to know more.

Banks has a good video available showing the L5P between 2017 and 2020. The real differences are more cooling for 2020 increased trailering requirements. New oil cooler with more fins and larger engine driven fan. Emissions are more strict in 2020 than 2017.

Banks iDash & Derringer isn’t available for the 2020. Must be because of the 10 speed since the engine is the same.

The iDash works fine (firmware updated in Aug). Derringer is being beta tested as we speak.

Good info, thanks! I didn't realize that "LP5" only referred to the engine. You are correct it's the platform (not the engine) I am interested in.

Wow that's awesome to watch thanks I have a lml but just waiting for my 20 l5p (thanks strike) but that's good to know on parts and all that
