After getting it to work the following Monday morning, i used one of our 5 ton cranes to pull the beast out of my bed

it sat until the next day, because i wanted to bring one of my trailers to get it lower and easier to remove when it came time to use an engine hoist

i would have used my gantry crane in my garage (built with a 3 ton hoist, 3/8" chain and quick links, and 8"x8" wood beams) but the inside width of the crane was 82", and the outside width of my trailer was 87" Downerrr

after sparking the interest of a diesel mechanic and a guy that lives near me who's also a fellow 12 valve owner (guy doing all the work on the driverside of the motor), we got it to crank

here are a few videos :D

Motor looks like it's in good shape from the pictures. How many miles were on it when pulled? That combo around here would be 2500+ easily
the guy works at a diesel shop out there that his grandfather owns, and the motor and trans came out of some elderly guys truck that he claimed had around 200K

im just glad i found one with everything i need including the P pump!!

my only concern now is getting the trans to work, because i'll have to get a stand alone computer, and by doing an easy google search ATS comes up....but then they say that you need their valve body

now were talking $1572 for the controller, and $650 for the valve body (from reading online, since the ATS PN doesnt show a price)

but the mechanic mentioned something about a 47RH that might fix my problems??!! I'm definitely new to the dodge world :eek:hno

originally i was going to use my TH350 and buy an $800 adapter plate, but i'd much rather use the trans it came with, but i just have to weigh the options and pricing, and learn some more!

I would stay with the 47re, the 47rh isn't computer controlled. I would call Dave goerend in Idaho or Iowa (can't remember which) he is the Mike L for Cummins guys hahah I had his converter in my Cummins Trans. He will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Gotta love the 12 valves. I have always wanted to put a 12 valve into a 73-87 Chevy. Figure when I have my own place and the money to tackle a project like that then I'll do it.

The 47RH isn't a bad trans especially if its built. Even a stock one is not bad if it's driven normally.

would i be able to convert the RE over to an RH?

i really dont want any electronic mumbo jumbo (even thinking to do away with the FSS and getting a pull cable..)

i dont need it to hold big power, i just need it to work and be reliable...this will just be a cruiser :)

Sub-a-dub-dub!

My daughters boy friend put a 12 valve in his '96 F250. Sounds like a dodge coming down the road!

I'm not too sure about switching an RE TO RH. I have heard you can and I have also heard you cant. You could run a manual valve body in the RE. I have no experience with that so not sure how it would work.

Tom17-Have to run a manual valve body or run toggle switches to control the lock up and over drive. I had a phucking awesome write up in a pdf but I can't find it anywhere and can't find it on the forum. It was either on competition diesel or Cummins forum. If I find it Jeff I'll send it to ya, I'm at work right now:rofl

Just out of curiosity, why not put a Getrag or NV4500 in it?

It's always more fun in a 12 valve with a 5spd.

True. I've just always prefered a manual. Haven't had a manual in about 3 years and miss it.

I like the NV4500 after the 5th gear nut is welded and you have a stronger clutch and flywheel. The getrags are junk imo even in stock form haha. I've been keeping my eye out for a 1st Gen but can't seem to find one that I like :( haha

I've been searching for a 1st gen RCLB with a 5spd for years. People are nuts with their asking prices, so haven't found one I'm willing to pay for yet.

I know a few guys with Getrag's and they never have any problems. My buddy bought his 1st gen new in 91 and its still all stock. Even has the origanal clutch at 450,000 miles.
