So recently i had some issues with my trailer brake system on the truck...

after googling over and over i found out that if the connections look good, and the under-hood fuses were fine, it was quite possible one of the components themselves has failed.

so i came across a video on youtube where a guy simply replaced the trailer brake relay at the rear of the truck and his problem was fixed!

so by process of elimination i started with the relay and BAM it worked!

new one *($35)

you have to lower the spare tire since its right above it on a panel

its slotted so you don't need to remove the allen screws, just loosen enough to slide it out

installed!

everything was working again

the lights had always worked via the plug but the brakes were not, this was definitely the issue

Might be buying this truck soon, once I swap my winch over to the new trailer I'll be able to move it

One of my cousins has a 95 Z71 350 he's finally wanting to sell after owning it since new and I think I'm gonna jump on it

200k mileage roughly
All stock
One ding on the top of the bed rail *(probably cover with caps)
Rest of body is straight

He said he was driving it years back and motor was revving up and it was slipping and limited him to 20mph ish, he thinks maybe the TC but I've read *(in case he's wrong) that clogged cats can limit you as well so who knows...LS swap FTW

He drove it around the yard and all acts normal so idk, thankfully I know a transmission guy now

Be a cool truck to have for as cheap as he's selling it for but I'm gonna look at it tomorrow since I'm off and he's off

Definitely needs the gas removed, maybe pull throttle body and clean *(electronic TB), maybe pull valve covers and spray some oil in the valvetrain?

Been sitting for many years and I don't want to start it if all I have to do is winch it and slowly go through it

Needs battery of course and a windshield

Wonder if someone has a master list on things to do before starting an old school 350

Always loved this combo on these trucks, he's now at the point where he doesn't want to afford to fix it when he's already driving a 99 tahoe, so it's time to sell

Pictures taken with his potato

Nice jeffe

I'd pull the plugs and squirt some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders, change the oil with some cheap Dino oil and more mystery oil. Clean the entire fuel system and check the tank for rust. New tanks aren't that expensive.

Then I'd spin it with no plugs in it for a few cycles and then button it all back up and hit the key for real. Might keep some ether handy.

i read that online too about putting that oil in the cylinders, but if it doesn't get all of it out cranking without spark it would just burn up once fuel is cleaned and added to the mix?

so my impression is this is what needs to happen:

1. pull the bed or drop the tank, to remove tank and pump (*maybe worth replacing pump or wait?)
2. disconnect lines @ throttle body and flush with carb cleaner and blow them out?

3. remove carb, clean thoroughly and let soak, replace with new gasket
4. pull plugs like you said and squirt some MM Oil in there
5. pull valve covers and soak the items in oil as well
6. drain it all, and refill with new filter
7. with the tank being plastic, what rust would i need to worry about? (ignorant question but i have to ask!)
8. replace with new plugs, and hold off on rotor and wires
9. try to rotate with crank bolt?
10. add a new battery
11. see what happens on start up?

the tags on the glass say 10/07, so i'm not sure if its really been sitting for a decade or he just rolled illegal like some of us have, but he claims its been started 5-6 years ago and drove around the yard

think once its home, its gonna get a degreaser bath in the engine bay with low pressure water, and the outside washed....just because i'd like to see how good it could shine up

thoughts?

oh and the reason i have 100% support from the wife is because post hurricane Harvey, the wife wanted to help people but didn't own anything that could get through high water *which i know even if you have something high enough, rushing water can still carry your' ass away! So she keeps saying "its gonna be (ALL) jacked up right?", and [i'm] like "yeah, uh huh"

give it enough time, she'll forget :rofl

Love those ext z71s. It’s rare to find one in that good of shape.

yea buddy i couldn't agree more!

was always jelly when he first got this truck, he wanted to ask for more and was even told by a few Stopper-By people asking about it that they'd offer 1800-2000 but they never came back *not sure how true those numbers could be, i try not to sell any of my stuff and will keep my junk as long as i can, so no clue if its a good deal....though i feel it is, especially since way back in the day i drove my dads ole 88 RCSB 4x4 5.7 for the longest before he passed away and i got his 01 RCSB 5speed6banger

not sure what a fair market value would be for this thing but he's asking $1500

and the headliner doesn't sag anywhere, which was a surprise, and the dash has a 3" crack above the steering wheel on the main dash and a few tiny ones in the defroster area, but nothing broken or fallen through

Replace the pump while you're in there. Cheap insurance.
