I have had a K&N air filter in my '02 GMC duramas for about 125k miles have cleaned it every 30-40k miles. Cleaned yesterday and several portions on the bottom are clogged dark black and it won't come clean. Afraid to brush or scrape..should I scrap it and go with another filter..thoughts recommendations?

Is it the oiled version filter or dry?

If wet...I'd dispose of it.

if it isn't, K&N has a lifetime warranty basically (1 Million Miles).

maybe give them a call and see if they will honor an exchange??

just a thought

It's the oiled version. you spray the cleaner on it and then gently flush with cold water and once it's dry, you re-oil from the "dirty" intake side.

yeah see there has been alot of discussion that the oiled version will actually lose its oil into the intake tube and thus coating the MAF sensor to read wrong/malfunction due to being coated in oil.

I've never had it happen to me cause i have never owned an oiled one....but I'm sure people will chime in with their results.

I've got an oiled one on my gasser. Usually if you spray a lot of the cleaner on it and let it sit a while it'll mostly come off. Otherwise IDK, maybe a toothbrush dipped in the cleaner? I've just always not worried about the black greasy crap lol
