All, I have searched and searched google for the location of the glow plug controller on my 18 2500 l5p. I just bought the truck and keep getting a glow plug 6 open circuit. Ive replaced the glow plug twice and keep getting it. There is some slightly shoddy wiring that goes from the harness to #6 plug. Truck starts and runs fine i just keep getting the p0676 "open circuit". Can someone speak to this issue and if they have a fix or where to locate the glow plug module to check for any issues. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

The module is mounted below the alternator close to the belt tensioner area.

Circled with arrow pointing to it. Yes the wire will be positive volts.

Sure why not LOL! No i have engines out all the time doing frame changes so just went back in my pics and found one that i could see the GPCM.

You may be able to access from fender but it would make a lot nicer to have the pipe loose up top. To get pipe loose you need to rotate the retaining ring counterclockwise a little to pull back the tabs then it should slide off.

That plug has close to 20 wires in it because it communicates with the ECM. The bigger wires are the ones going to the glow plugs and smaller wires are whatever else. I would need wiring diagram to know what does what.

The big wire is a power hooked up directly to fuse panel on top off pass side battery.

That will be power. Ground is the engine itself.

Thanks. I was hoping it was a ground so i could just grab another ground in case this harness is jacked. I appreciate all the help. I cant figure out why every couple of days i keep getting this code. just says p0676 open circuit. Engine runs and cranks fine even in 22 degree weather.

The controller has an aluminum back and is bolted fast. I guess I’m not sure what you are wanting to do.

Ok gotcha. Yes they can be a little sticky sometimes. You are rotating the light grey lever right? There is a slider that come out the top or back side that i use a little screwdriver or something to help it along sometimes.

Yes that little grey thing. Its pretty difficult to see from my vantage point so im almost surely not seeing the slider. I thought there may be something else holding it up. Its about 15 degrees outside right now so ill wait a little later to tinker with it lol. Also, if i do replace that controller, do i HAVE to have it programmed for flow rates?

221117 I dropped my 2018 2500 HD for the eng light on the glow plug error on #6 too. The service department informed me yesterday, that it was not the glow plug but a software update that was needed to fix the issue. 221122 I'm scheduled to pick it up tomorrow, but they are telling me that fixed the issue. The upgrade cost me $150; that's all I know for now.
