Sunday morning cold start on keyfob the truck started and immediately shutdown and wouldn't restart remotely. After investigating, I noticed it through a P10D1 code. I have had 0 issues over the 17k miles I've driven. The day before I had just filled the DEF tank and the truck finished a Regen.

Took it to the dealer yesterday and was told it was probably nusence. They reset and told me to drive it. If it happened again they would look into it deeper. Quick search on here didn't really show much info, only appearing in some the TSB documentation. Anyone have a decent explanation and if it maybe just related to calibration? Drove about 50miles so far without it reoccurring.

It has do with a self check of the def injector coil being out of 'expected' temperature range after a long 'soak' (after sitting for 8 hours or more).

It may never come back, or it might be a poor connection somewhere between sensor and computer or it may be a sensor issue or ???


It is an OBDII Type B code, so it emissions related and it has to fail twice in a row to set the code.
(if it fails once it becomes a 'pending code', if it passes on the second trip it 'clear's, if it fails on the second trip it 'sets')


It can't/won't come back until the truck has had at least 2 cycles of sitting for at least 8 hours prior to being driven.
 
I have this problem DPF and SURGING occasionally when unloaded but consistent on downhill loaded. Also, frequent regen and erratic throttle between 2000 and 25-2800 in some gears if I hold the throttle juuuust right. 35-40 mph it is most noticeable during average acceleration.

Also had low coolant once the temps hit below freezing. I HAVE ADDED COOLANT AND AM OBSERVING not real cold laterly

General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Recall involving certain 2016 model year Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon; 2017 model year Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana; 2017-2018 model year Chevrolet Colorado, Cruze, Silverado HD, GMC Canyon, Sierra HD and 2018 model year Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with a diesel engine. The engine control module in these vehicles may not properly diagnose a fault in the exhaust particulate matter sensor. Additionally, a subset of these vehicles, certain 2017 model year Chevrolet Silverado HD and GM Sierra HD vehicles, may in rare instances exhibit a condition in which the engine surges up to 2,800 RPM during vehicle coast or vehicle braking.

Repair Description:

Program the engine control module, and transmission control module when applicable.

Recall Status: INCOMPLETE
 
I've seen EGR cooler tubes having a very slight leak at the brazing point causing a leak. Have seen just as many that didn't get burped properly at the factory causing a low coolant message as well with no external leaks at all.
 
I'm scheduling an appointment this week to address the recall. Additionally, during regen it's as if my exhaust pipe is plumbed into the cab. The smell of poorly burned diesel is horrible, causing occupants to feel ill. Anyone else hear of or notice this issue?

that is not normal I wonder if you have a loose clamp or something
 
Recall last Wednesday. Throttle response and stability improved (no more “hunting “ when trying to run steady around 35-45 MPH). The shifting is much improved with only one “violent” shift when towing.

However.... fuel mileage reduced 2-4 MPG towing and about 5 MPG non-tow.. all highway.

I would say you are more than likely being dramatic, but if not, the only thing that could cause this would be a serious leak in the manifold/downpipe in which case you would more than likely hear some off sounds.

Mine was just reprogrammed at routine oil and filter change. Now it feels like the truck has lost that awesome horsepower.
 
I had my updated yesterday per N172118140.

Am I crazy, or is the thing quieter at all regimes? Idle seems a little bit quieter, while initial acceleration seems a lot quieter.

Driveability is improved, I guess. The drivetrain seems to operate more smoothly, as the shifts are smoother, and the initial torque isn't as immediate and "in your face". The onrush of power is similar if you get into it, but it's not a jump off the line anymore. That's probably by design, since a massive burst of initial torque doesn't translate to smoothness to most folks, I'm assuming. Less assertive, more refined, with identical power in accleration/boost.

I have the leak at the brazing point. After driving, can smell the coolant and see a few drips on the horizontal surface just under the braze. Have poured about two quarts of coolant/water mixture into it. Have just under 17,000 miles on the odo.

Truck goes in Friday to have that looked at as well as the ECM/TCM re-flash. Hopefully they have an EGR coolant pipe in stock so they can fix it then and there.

So, I've had my truck since the middle of May. It has run great since then, course I only drive it when I'm really going on the highway for serious driving e.g. no taxi service. Now has about 5800 miles on it and close to time for an oil change. Called the dealer for the first change, and the service scheduler said there were two voluntary recalls for it. One of them requires parts that have to be brought in by ground shipping, the other is the software update. She said two weeks to get the parts. Any idea what that is? I know about the software deal from reading here but I'm curious what the other one is. Yeah I know I could wait and find out, but I kinda want to know since it's "voluntary".

Most likely it's the seat belt torsioner. I just got a letter that stated it was voluntary but to schedule as the part needs to be available. Bought mine end of April

Had mine in yesterday for the transmission & engine module re-flash and also the coolant leak (EGR coolant feed pipe is leaking at the flange weld). Time will tell if the "surge" is gone, but it seems to drive more smoothly on the 20 miles I've put on it since yesterday. Dealer had to order a new EGR feed tube and gaskets, telling me they'll have the parts mid next week.

GM seems to be doing a good job on fixing the issues. The tech had good information and even printed the service bulletins from GM and left a copy for me in the truck.

So, a satisfied customer.

BTW 17,000 miles on it. Have added ~2 quarts of coolant/water mix.

Condition
Some customers may comment on the coolant surge tank appears low and/or a low coolant message displayed intermittently.

Cause
This may be due to the fill process at the plant cannot purge all of the air from the cooling system and surge tank. After the engine has been thermally cycled, air rises causing the coolant to become lower than initially viewed.

Correction
Add 1 quart (0.946 L) of coolant to the upper chamber of the surge tank in order to bring the level up to the bottom of the fill neck.

Information
There has been a change in the values displayed in GDS 2. Beginning with the 2017 Silverado/Sierra, the DPF Soot Accumulation is measured in percent instead of grams. On vehicles equipped with a L5P engine, the ECM will not try to perform a regeneration until the DPF Soot Accumulation increases to approximately 100%. If the DPF Soot Accumulation increases to 115% and the system has not been able to regenerate, the “continue driving” message will be displayed on the DIC. If the DPF Soot Accumulation increases to 140%, DTC P2463 will set and will now require a service regeneration to clean the DPF.

Service Regeneration vs Regeneration Enable and Drive Cycle
A Service Regeneration is designed to lower the DPF Soot Accumulation in the DPF in a very controlled way. It is not as effective at lowering the soot accumulated in the DPF as a Regeneration Enable followed by a drive.

Please perform a service regeneration if instructed to by service information. As a rule of thumb, if a vehicle has less than 70% DPF Soot Accumulation, do not perform a regeneration unless instructed by Service Information.

•If you are concerned about the DPF Soot Accumulation, perform a regeneration enable and return the vehicle to the customer.
•If you encounter a vehicle with greater than 70% soot accumulation in the DPF, perform a service regeneration or a regeneration enable followed by a drive cycle.

Additional Information
Note: There is no need to check soot mass at PDI unless a message or DTC directs you to.

If the vehicles AT PDI reads 40% soot accumulation, it is NOT considered high and does not require any service.

•If you have a truck with a “continue driving” message on the DIC and it has less than 500 miles (800 kilometers), review PIP5468 and 10-06-05-002.
Note: Use this formula as a diagnostic aid and in the administration of a maintenance schedule. It should NOT be used to determine warranty coverage.

Some vehicles may spend a lot of time idling, use the formula to aid in determining the equivalent mileage (kilometers).

•Check and record the total engine hours on the Drivers Information Center (DIC).
•Multiply this time by 33 miles or 53 km.
•The result should be close to the mileage on the odometer.
⇒ Example 1; If a vehicle has 1.7 engine hours and 60 miles (97 km) on the odometer, the engine run time would equate to about 56 miles (90 km) (1.7 X 33 = 56 (1.7 X 53 = 90)).
This vehicle should not have much soot accumulation in the DPF. Some of these trucks can go 500 - 700 miles (800-1100 km) between a regeneration.

⇒ Example 2; If the vehicle has 626.9 engine hours and 7,269 miles (11,698 km) on the odometer, the engine run time would equate to about 20,688 miles (33,226 km) (626.9 X 33 = 20,688 (626.9 X 53 = 33,226)).
This vehicle would be considered a vehicle that idles a lot and this information may be useful in diagnosing any issues.

Note: Engine first order vibration measured at the driver's inboard seat track will be between .004 and .007G at 1700 RPM. Normal engine 1st order vibration would be less than .002G at 1700 RPM.

Cause
This condition may be caused by an anomaly in the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Correction
Refer to Product Emission Campaign #17337. If the campaign has already been completed, refer to SI for additional diagnostics.
