Are you sure your o-ring is seated correctly on the new filter? Might be worth pulling the filter again and inspecting the o-ring. The fact that there is a film on the filter makes me think you either mucked up the o-ring during installation or it was defective.

You're doing it wrong. Skip the turning of the key. I went through this nonsense with my 2008 for a couple weeks.

1) Open bleeder screw
2) Push primer button repeatedly until you start cursing GM
3) Continue pushing primer button until fuel comes out of bleeder screw
4) VERY IMPORTANT! After fuel comes out bleeder screw, push primer button one more time but DO NOT RELEASE. Hold it down and tighten the bleeder screw.

This was the only method that worked every time for me with my LMM.

You definitely have a leak if it's covered in diesel fuel. Is your bleeder screw stripped? Maybe grab a new filter and oring just in case. It's a cheap way to check if that's the problem.

After that you might have a bad filter housing. They do go bad, but I don't know that they leak fuel out. Usually it's the internal orings that go bad and cause you to lose prime.

Probably a dumb question, but you verified the old o-ring came off with the old filter, right?

The diesel gods have blessed me thus far and I've not dealt with a Duramax failed injector. I get rid of them before that time.
