I was driving my 04.5 LLY home from work last month and it went BOOM! I'm pretty sure it sucked in a valve and I will pull the motor apart soon to confirm. Since I didn't want my truck in 100 pieces for any length of time I ended up buying an LBZ from a local JY to prep for a weekend swap. I plan to use the LBZ block, heads, flywheel and balancer with the LLY reluctor wheel/crank sensor/timing cover, injectors, wiring, turbo, cp3....
The LLY injectors fit the LBZ heads without a problem unlike the glow plugs. I have to use LBZ glow plugs in the LBZ head.

my questions:
If I want to keep a stock tune do I need an LBZ glow plug module?
If I don't want to keep a stock tune, can EFI live reprogram the LLY glow plug module to work?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t know why you would need to do anything. IMO the LLY module should run the glow plugs just fine.

Just curious and looking for some clarification here....... Isn't there a difference in the LLY and LBZ injectors besides the connector? I thought there was a difference in groove diameter and O-ring thickness between the two that made for a leaky injector if you didn't get the magic combination right.

How about the other way? Will a LLY injector fit a LBZ head? Isnt the same casting # used for both the LLY and LBZ? I guess my concern comes from,,, I bought a set of supposedly LLY heads and have them at the machine shop. Going to do head gaskets and injectors on my LLY just to look for another 200k reliable miles. Hopefully I'm not spending a grand on a set of heads I can't use on my 04.5 LLY

Heres something I found in the Diesel Place that has me confused..
LBZ/LMM heads on an LLY short block are 100% bolt-on-and-go. LLY heads on an LBZ/LMM are not bolt on because of the slightly different diameters of the injector bodies.

Even LML heads will bolt onto an LLY short block. But again, the injector holes are different sizes.
