I have an 08 GMC Sierra 2500hd duramax 4x4

I have a 6” lift that I’m wanting to take off but don’t have the money for a new differential because my upper diff ear was cut I can’t use it. Is there any reason I need the ear? Why is it not needed when lifted but needed when lowered?

my opinion:

i would replace it the ear gives support for the diff itself to prevent damage as the vehicle moves. and it's not ok for a lifted truck to be without it.

while it will work with out it, it is there for support and eventually you will damage the diff itself

I do think your headed in the right way by removing a ridiculous lift.

Cognito makes a part to take care of that when going back to stock.
