LML Engine Oil Leak

My truck is a 2011 with 8200 miles and last week I posted about my drivers side rear axle seal having a big leak. The dealer got me fixed up on that one.

I saw oil in this area a few hundred miles ago and wiped it down thinking it was from the oil change done at 7800 miles. It's dry around the oil filter and drain plug. It looks like oil is collecting on those cooler lines (picture) and the front of the transmission. What do you guys think??

I feel sorry for ya man. My crappy service with a good dealer has lead me down this path. I only have a few months left though. At least your truck is drivable. Mine was leaking real bad. Enough I parked it until it could go to the dealer.

That was the first time I went in. 2 weeks later it was twice as worse.

And about the dealer thing. I had some warranty work done on my burb last summer, new trans. And he fought with the warranty company over it. They wanted to put in one out of a junk yard and he had one sitting on the shop floor. The junker would have taken a week to get there too. Needless to say, it got the reamaned one. Now with the diesel, they don't seem to care. Its like they treat us different because of the truck we drive. They even bitched about me leaving the truck running for a few mins after pulling up. Said its loud and smells bad.

Just to keep this going, I've got a 2013 with 3500 miles on it and I've got oil on the cooler lines and between the engine and trans. I'm going to check all the oil pan bolts but I fear it's going to be the dang galley plugs.

Well mines going in because th AC quite after 1 month 4,700 miles & to have the DIC checked way off on on fuel calculations!

I'll be checking very closely for oil since it's going in!

Just a quick update. I checked my oil pan bolts yesterday and the majority of them took 1/4-1/2 turn to get them tight. I sprayed everything off with cleaner and I'll check it periodically.

:thumb I looked at it this AM and the 4 bolts on the end it is leaking from were hand tight, I snugged them up a bit and cleaned all the oil off. I will check later tonight for any oil. I did call the dealer and let them know this but they still want to check the truck out quick on Monday.

IT'S BACK!!!!!
Yes the oil leak! Now for the third time! Dropped it off yesterday, dyed it, nothing found yet. I've retaken possession and will put on probably 700-800km next week and will be bringing it back. I can post pics, but they look the same as the first and second batch I posted. I've been documenting this quite thoroughly and although no lemon laws in Canada, if not fixed I will be looking into CMVAP. In the last 14 months it's will have been in 3 times to fix the oil leak now. Never mind the smoke in the cabin and fuel smell issues from the misaligned down-pipe caused by the second attempt to fix! More and more I'm starting to think I should have bought a F...

Small oil leaks seem to be normal. I currently have one on the front corner and one on the opposite rear corner and one somewhere around the oil filter. These leaks are very minor and do not drip. The truck never loses oil. Just because there may be a bit of oil on the block somewhere, there is no cause for alarm unless it is losing copious amounts evidenced on the dipstick.

I was under the truck today and noticed a leak similar to many of yalls. There's a good amount of oil around the trans housing, guess my truck is going to see the dealer for the 15th time (probably actually 9, but at this point:cookoo[1]:) It really is sad that such an amazing truck is followed by this shadow of evil. At least its not the emissions system again! Knocking on wood.

While preparing for an oil change, I found a decent amount of oil coming out of the driver's side of my engine. It's dripping down on the front differential. It's only got 17k miles and still seems new to me, so I'm super disappointed by this. I hate leaks more than anything. I didn't even use synthetic oil as to avoid leaks. I had planned on keeping this truck for a long time, but now just want another one.

Like a previous poster, I'm horrified by the idea of anyone else working on my stuff, so I may just try to figure it out myself. Hopefully it's something small. Any suggestions would be great.

I know it's unrelated, but strangely enough, my '09 GMC 1500 with the 5.3 had a leak in the exact same spot.

I crawled under there today with a light and found the source of my leak. It's the oil pressure sensor just forward of the oil filter housing. See it circled in the image below. I'm relieved that it's not something more serious. I'll pull this out during my next oil change and put some teflon tape on it.

Just to toss this out there. My 15 developed an oil leak, with 2700 mi, in the same spots in the previous pic's. Just picked it up after 2 weeks and a day. The valley plugs were the culprit. They changed the main seal, "just because" they were in there. Hopefully this fixes this. Time will tell. Talking with the service writer and he mentioned GM does know about this problem, seems its been a problem for a few years.

Mine leaking too

While I was under my truck today adjusting my torsion bars to level the front, I noticed a fair amount of oil dripping down those cooler lines. I think its the lower pan, last time it was at the dealer for a front axle leak I looked under the truck while it was on their lift and noticed seepage around the lower pan. The tech re-torqued the bolts and said that should take care of it. Looks like they will have to re-seal it now. I dropped truck off already, I will update with what they do. I hope its not a rear main, or those galley plugs starting to leak - I really don't want them to pull my trans out.

Looked on my garage floor where I park, and there are a couple oil drips there. I have just over 17800 mi, 2013......

I also had an oil galley plug leak on a brand new 2015 with 3,000 miles. They fixed it after 2.5 weeks and broke something else (downpipe leak), started at next DEF cycle. I live over 250 miles (round trip) from the dealer. After that started, I headed straight to RAM dealer and ordered a new Laramie. Don't have time for that garbage and can't afford for my truck to be out of commission up here in the mountains.
