Dropped the truck off for diagnosis last night. Mechanic calls this morning and says, when he got in the go pedal it called for 18,000 psi and it only made 12,000 so he let off it and didn’t push it any further. balance rates are in spec. Truck was hazing when the weather was cold but hasn’t hazed at idle all summer. Truck does not have fuel in the oil, so I am assuming I can rule out leaky injectors and try the fuel pressure regulator or CP3 pretty confidently?

Could check return rates. Fpr when they got bad usually make idle jump around and have a lope. You could always pull the harness for the fpr and it should max out. If it does it's not the cp3 itself. He should be able to command rail with a good scan tool and monitor desired vs actual.
