Flushed (hoot) my trans fluid out and exchanged with torque-drive last night.

Changed the external filter, dropped the pan, took a rag to all the drips to keep it off my face.

Kerplop! WTF was that?!?:help

dumped out my drain pan, and lo and behold, one of the black 8mm bolts from inside the transmission had fallen out! I found the hole it went in, put it back in, and checked all the others.

Another bolt was about halfway backed out.

WTF? How would this happen? And, was I really as close to a transmission armageddon as I think I was, with a bolt floating around in there willy-nilly?

Not that I know of. Truck is new to me. No trans work in the maintenance history.
And to think, I considered the double drain and fill, and I wouldn't have caught it!!
