MBRP 5" with muffler delete question

1763 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Jeff27
Hey guys, quick question, will this set up throw any codes or are there any draw backs to the muffler/cat delete (besides all the tree-hugging emissions stuff) any recomendations to alternatives to this set-up? not too concerned about sound level as I want an aggressive sound, however I do want the most "bang for my buck" as far as power gains as well...

fill out your sig, what year truck? what mods?
I'm thinking he's 04.5-05.
if thats the case then get the 5" MBRP TB and lose the muffler. you'll love it.

whoops, sorry, haven't got that far yet lol, it's a 2004 LLY so far no mods, just picked up the truck a the friday before last:rockin I just moved to PA not too long ago, so I'm not 100% sure on how the whole annual inspection goes, but I know they will fail you if there's any codes reading on your vehicle, not sure if that's part of the emission testing or the safety inspection (thinking probably the emission, but not sure)
well with an exhaust you wont throw any codes. but if inspections are strict where you're at then they might give you chit about not having a muffler. to be honest i am running an mbrp muffler and it sounds great and is still pretty loud
as long as he doesnt have cali emissions fed9 or something computer he will be ok...

if u remove the cat or throw a egr blocker plate in there u will need a fingerstick , tricks the computer making it think the cat and egr are working or there..

according to the build sheet I have NT9 - EMISSION SYSTEM FEDERAL, TIER 2 PHASE-OUT (Hope that's not what you're talking about)

so where do you get the finger sticks? (did a search to figure out what it was, but couldn't find vendor that way)
ya i think thats the cali emissions code....

You can use a finger stick or tuner to take care of the codes.
did you try putting it on first to SEE if you have any codes

No, there's no codes now, I was asking if this setup would/could send a code. Sounds like the finger stick would be the way to go if it does send a code, as I am not ready to get into tuners yet lol
If you dont have a code now don't worry. You may get one if you tow but it will only be a soft code and not effect performance.
You may or may not get a check engine light for codes P0401 and P0404. If you do, its not big deal as long as you can handle the orange light on your dash. if you cant stand that light, you will need a fingerstick or EGR delete programmer to take care of the codes. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
I've never had a code on my 2004 LLY. I deleted all that and added my egr plate before I ever got my PPE programmer and have never gotten a code.
