Got under the truck first time and was thinking about removing the skid plates behind the plastic one that protects the pulleys, and make sure all was lubed, and just looking it over. Well good news is I did not have to remove them , bad news is cause there were none?? Can anyone tell me if they quit putting them on or did the "dealer oil changes " take another toll on quality work? All my 4x4 trucks have always had them and I did not think they were a option?

Thanks for the info, Now question is where did it go? I believe it is the Number 11 it's not like it will break me but really think the dealer that did the "free oil change" perhaps left it off, they bragged about doing a lube even though its not part of the free service , though the fittings looked untouched.

Skidplate #9 has over torqued and broken mounting points in the plastic. Cant be sure if it was a the factory or the dealer inspection.

No one has serviced my truck but me up to this point, and When i pulled it off to lube the front end, I saw it was cracked on 2 of the 4 holes.

To be honest, I am not sure its worth the hassle to get another one from the dealer as I prefer not to have them touch my truck. (its been flawless thus far and I dont want that to change)

I had the plastic one break like that as well , after I replace it and happened again I put a HUGE fender washer on it and it was fine from then on, it does protect the belt and lower pulley and radiator hose so I think its a good idea, the steel one I am missing shields the plastic on the solenoid deal and the steering linkage somewhat, I worry cause I am on the Highway so much and chunks of rubber are always out there lurking and they do alot of damage !! and animals !

Just got a email from the dealer that serviced the truck , they ran the Vin and it showed it was ordered with out the plate?? Seems like a silly deleted item but who knows !! I spend a lot of time on the road and hit a lot of gators (recap rubber) and there is some stuff up there that is vulnerable.

To get get skid plates they need to be 'added'.
(as opposed to deleting them if you don't want them)

Either add Z71 or add NZZ, as posted above.

Redwngr , I have had 5 of these 4x duallys and all had the plate till this one, I never gave it a thought. Fortunately CDmax16 has one extra, the truck is a totally loaded High Country so looks like whoever ordered it was likely just a "fill stock" kinda person , the one thing I did notice there was no marks around the bolt holes so guess we solved the problem , thanks for your research and knowledge !!! Have a Happy New Year!!

Yep, I've had a 2005, 2011, and now a 2018 all 3500 Duallies and the Skid Plates were optional on all. Maybe partly because there is no Z71 option for Duallies.

Scottsdale is not a bad place to be this time of year. I was there in November with some buddies golfing.

plastic shield

Mine was broken around the bolt holes, dealer says “they all do that”. Junk!
Perhaps GM should do a little redesigning or stamp them out of Tin like the rest of them, I had same problem and ended up putting some REALLY REALLY big fender type washers on both sides of the plastic after 2 of them.
