We just purchased our first 2013 duramax diesel 2500 HD. We are having some problems with it. We have changed the fuel filter, glowplugs and did a seafoam flush. It will run super good at times and at times it will run terrible, when it is not running good it is white smoking and you have to pump the gas to get the rpm over 3000 once you have pumped the gas and it gets over 3000rpm it will set you back in the seat but once you stop or want to accelerate you will have to pump the gas again. We took it to the Chevy dealer they said it is the injector pump and want 8000.00 to fix it. We were told that there is only 2 ways to find out of the injector pump is bad we dont believe the dealership did either of them. I just wanted someone that knows a little bit about diesels to tell me what they think. Please help and Thank you

How many miles on truck? could be the pump but first... the pump CP4 used on your model can fail / degrade at high miles

Have you done oil change yet? look for water / coolant...

If it is the pump, replace it with a cp3...

Can you describe what a "Seafoam flush" is? Was the truck running badly when you bought it or did it start acting up after performing the items mentioned? Do you have any history from past owner?

Could be the CP4 pump. They have a bad history. If it did fail, in many cases the injectors, injector lines, pump, etc are all contaminated with metal shavings. If this is the case, that 8k price is in the ball park of repairing it. Local GM houses has done several and they range up to 10k depending on damage.

The CP3 conversion is a good solution but won't do anything to fix the injectors if they are contaminated too.

If I can ever be of assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

Take care,

Maybe some other guys will chime in with better info... but this doesnt sound like catastrophic cp4 failure and you say it runs good sometimes... Id stop driving it, get a good diesel mechanic to take a look. Maybe you havent destroyed the fuel system yet?
