ive been wanting to switch to synthetic for a while now and was wondering first what the pros and cons where? and second what is best for the duramax to switch to

#2 ·
synthetic is better. It also will show leaks more. If you have no leaks with conventional oil. You might have a couple of small leaks with synthetic. To get the best reason why this is ask our amsoil reps they will chim in here soon to tell you. Synthetic is the BEST SOLUTION. No time better to change over than the present.

thanks for the help what would you recomend for a duramax i was looking at amsoil mobil 1 and royal purple let me know what yall think

#4 ·
synthetic is the only way to go...it outlasts and out performs conventional oil in any test conducted. I have used AmsOil in my 06 since I got it and will never use anything else. The only thing I need to do but haven't is get a bypass filtration system for it to get more life out of the oil. It's comin' though...

nice what weight are you using i heard 15w-40 and how much would i need in quarts

#6 ·
For your truck 15w-40 Full synthetic would be the best solution. Also, ToyPuller is right on about the leaks, but that is often solved by using an Engine Flush to get all the left over sludge out of your engine.

Although Mobile 1 is a good product, they cannot offer the same daring interval increases that Amsoil offers.

As for Royal Purple, PM Six-Gun-Todd for his experiences with it, he has some doozies for sure.

Amsoil will save you more money over the other two, especially if you install a Bypass Filtration System. They are Amazing inventions for sure.

PM me for more information about Pricing and the Amsoil Preferred Customer Program

Amsoil, Mobil 1 or Schaffers are all pretty top oils if you looking for syn. I stay away from RP but thats just me. Bigdaddy will hook you up if you go the Amsoil route.

I have used Royal Purple for years with tremendous success, nothing bad to say about their products here. I am getting ready to try AMSOIL based on comments made on this site. Just 500 more miles to go.

so if I have leaks syntec will show up??where

#10 ·
I started the synthetic at 60k miles.I was shocked to see the oil was still clear after 1000 miles,NEVER saw that before.Do the synthetic deal,it doesn't burn synthetic oil as either. It won't smoke too hard any more, but I know it's a helluva lot cleaner running...I can also go 9-11k on the syn, that's with running 15-18 hr. days without shutting it off!!You will be happy with the synthetic..And I always said I never would use it,I was wrong.I realized it was use syn or change the oil every 8 days!!!:eek: The oil lasts great till 10k,and usually
I have 250-300 hrs on it too...

#11 ·
wow alot of miles and alot of hrs daddyslbz i never relized syn lasted 10k i thought you changed it on the same time or around 5k

#13 ·
That was with reg ol oil,I switched to the Mobil 1 5-40 full synthetic,I have always used the Mobil Delvac anyway,so i chose the syn..
90,000 miles,3367 hours!!........ZERO problems....
also i do fuel filter every 6-7k,need it or not...runs like the day I got it!:rockin

#14 ·
looks like i will be switching in the very near future

#15 ·
i run rotella t synthetic. i dont seen anyone else on here running it. is there something wrong with it?

#16 ·
anybody know?

#17 ·
I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all.

I do think that most people find that on the preferred customer program with Amsoil they pay pretty close to the same or less than the Rotella and are guarateed extended milage between oil changes so they opt for Amsoil.

#18 ·
so will it hurt to switch? and which product exactly do you prefer?

#19 ·
I am assuming your talking which Amsoil product. I use the 15W-40 part number AME . Its the most popular diesel oil for pre 2007 diesels. Let me know if I can help by getting it for you at my cost.

but to answer the question about it hurting to switch is no as long as you stay full synthetic

#21 · (Edited)
That is right, it does not hurt anything to make the change form one Full synthetic to another. Also, with the Amsoil Preferred Customer Program Pricing, and Warranted Extended Drain Intervals, There is no other Full Synthetic on the market that can compete.

Not to mention the fact that the same discounts on the oil extend to all other products offered by Amsoil, including but not limited to Trico Wiper Blades, and Mothers Polishes and Waxes.

PM me for more information about saving up to 25% across the board on all of your vehicle maintenance needs.

God Bless

Chris

while were talking about switching oil y is it you can switch from reg oil to synthetic but you cant go from synthetic to reg y is that ?

#23 ·
Actually I did not know the answer to that one either, so I made a call just now and found out that this is an old "Wives / Shade Tree Mechanic's Tail" There is actually nothing wrong with changing either way, Amsoil Full Synthetic Fluids are fully compatible with all other oils, period.

I am sure someone will come in to argue that point, but I just double checked with Amsoil and that is per their information after 35 years in the Synthetic Lubrication Industry

#24 ·
yea had always heard once you switch you couldnt go back so now i know its a lie haha thanks for clearing that up for me

#25 ·
with the duramax when is it best to switch to synthetic. i know with a gas they say not to switch before 20,000

with amsoil when can you switch with there synthetic vs other synthetics?

#27 ·

Amsoil

I have used Amsoil in my truck since it had 54,333 miles on it. I also installed the bypass filter set up that uses 1 full flow and 1 bypass filter. I do oil sampling everytime I change my oil and the results have always come back " suitable for continued use. I do this for my peace of mind. My drain intervals have ranged from 19,000 to 26,000 miles. So for using Amsoil for 148,000 + I am more than happy with it.
