I did my 3rd oil change (1st free one at 5k) at 16896 miles. I now have 4794 miles on it and when I checked it today it was almost a quart low. That seems like a lot of consumption. I have towed a 15k fiver at 65-70 mph for about 1800 miles of that. I run Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 full synthetic.
I stilll am adding a bit of coolant to the reservoir since the initial coolant leak was repaired at about 5k miles. No fluids on the ground.
Thanks.

I am also about a quart low at my oil change intervals of 5,000 to 7,500 miles ... have ~ 28k on my 2019. This is normal ... would not worry too much about it. That’s why they call them an oil burner.

2017 here... I go thru about 1 quart every 1200 miles. I cant believe this is "normal"
What's the best oil? I tow a travel trailer about 70% of the miles with this truck.

1 quart every 1200 miles is wayyyy to often. Better take a look for leaks underneath your truck.

Just an FYI ... you will get never-ending opinions regarding oil brands on this forum ... same goes with oil change intervals (mileage).

My personal preference is Shell Rotella T6 15W-40 fully synthetic in the summer ... same brand but 5w-40 in the winter ... lower weight oil in the winter because I cover the northern Rocky Mountains and routinely see temps of 10 to 20 below zero at night.

Truthfully, synthetic probably isn’t even necessary. I am lazy and only change my oil every 7,500 to 8,500 miles ... so I like the extra piece of mind of synthetic oil. Plus I can get both oils in bulk containers at the local Walmart near my house.

If I ran conventional oil ... I would probably change it every 5,000 miles.

I just recommend staying with major brand oils ... and make sure it has the appropriate API CJ-4 or CK-4 designation ... these trucks are way too expensive to risk an engine failure over cheap oil.

Just my opinionated two cents. (possible that others will disagree with my recommendations).

A quart every 1200 miles to me is excessive. I have a 2012 Yukon that I add about every 2-2500 and I think that is riodiculous.

I add a little oil to my 15 occasionally between oil changes, but I’m usually 8-10K before I change it. I go by the oil life monitor whether that’s right or wrong. I use the regular Rotella 15W40 and have for my previous diesels without issue.

A quart to an oil change is normal especially if pulling it seems. I wouldn't worry about that in the least.

When I first got my 2017 I thought I had excessive oil consumption when I dropped ~3/4 of a liter over the first 4500km.(2800 miles). I took it in and they told me it was normal - they gave me the attached bulletin that indicates an L5P can use 2.36 liters/379 liters of fuel. I now have about 34,000 km and the oil level does not drop at all.
