I totally agree. I have seen several people who have echoed that same sentiment. I am doing research and trying to figure out how I proceed. The thought of driving my $50k+ truck without oil makes me sick and pissed at the same time. I will definitely keep updating as this community of folks will only continue to grow as the Cadillac SUVs, Tahoes, and Suburbans all start to hit the magic 10k mileage mark.
I have a 2020 RST lm2 and my rear seal on the timing chain just blew and leaked oil everywhere at 16,000 km what’s the deal with these things

Hi all, I have a new (I have had it 7 days) AT4 3.0 w/ a rear main seal failure at 300 miles. Had the truck 7 days. At dealer now for extensive dismantling and repairs.
Anyone else have leaks very early on with this engine? I am worried about a defect in the block machining where that seal fits.
Yes. Today at 12,500 miles. I am pissed.

12,500 is pretty crazy, would think it would leak/spit out before then..
3,326 miles on my 2021 Duramax 1500, and rear main seal blew out on me last Thursday. Just got the call this morning that the parts are "on order" from the dealership. Good News--everything is covered. Bad News- may take a while to get the parts.
First time owning a diesel, and ever having this happen in any of my trucks. Can anyone say whether or not after this is fixed, if there will be subsequent issues with the engine/Tranny?

That's good to hear.. Hope they get mine straight.
Here I am... 15600 miles on my GMC SIERRA 1500 with duramax 3.0.
Few days ago noticed a fresh oil spills on driveway. Came to the dealer. It’s took 4! FOUR!! days to diagnose a problem. Oil leak from turbocharger. Of course no parts. No diesel mechanics with this engine abilities. Now i have to wait at least 3 weeks, to get it fixed. Really disappointed.
hi, did you get your truck fix? I just found out mine has a leak at the turbocharge try to contact the dealership to get mine fix.
Also the rear main seal went out at 34000 miles but i got it fix

2020 Silverado 1500 27,000 miles - Just got word from the dealer that the front crank seal and the front cover are leaking. I had it up on my lift to change the oil last week and I noticed the oil pan had oil on it. Removed the skid plate and it was bathed in oil and the steering rack was covered. Took it to the dealer and GM told them to degrease everything, add dye to the oil and have me drive it around for a couple hundred miles and bring it back. Just heard from the service advisor, front crank seal and front cover are leaking. Crank seal is a 5 hr job and front cover just notes "time in" so who knows. Bad news is the crank seal is on backorder so they are going to try to see if another dealer in the country has one that they are willing to give up. No idea currently on when I get the truck back. Here are some pictures.

More info as I get it.

2020 Silverado 1500. Rear main went at 5000 miles and was replaced (all the oil leaked out while driving on the highway…). Now at about 20000 miles it started leaking again. This time it is a much slower leak though. Getting a second rear main seal in 20000 miles. Great manufacturing.

Was just looking into this after finding some oil spots on driveway. I got under the truck and noticed oil all over. Dipstick reading normal however. I love the truck, but dang stop the bleeding. 2020 Silverado 3.0 diesel.

My oil leak is back, I don't think the front seal was the cause of the first leak. The leak is worse in my opinion as the truck was now leaving oil spots on the garage floor. Service writer says the mechanic is ordering all the gaskets required to remove the oil pan as well as some other "plate" where they believe the oil is coming from. He tells me they will be taking the front of the truck off and then pulling the engine and transmission....could be a couple more weeks before I get it back. 32,000 miles on it. I deviated from my own advice "never buy the first year of anything", but I really love the truck and the babymax. I will see if he will take some pics for me when they find the leak.

I feel bad for all y’all 3.0 owners. They are replacing complete motors left and right on those baby duramax’s. I know they will no longer be made due to the issues. I was at my buddy’s place teamsters at who is a diesel mechanic for a gmc dealership and he told me all about there issues and that they were going away.

Where have you heard they are “replacing complete motors left and right”? They have replaced some 2.8l duramax motors if they grenaded due to faulty injectors that burned holes in the pistons. But I’ve seen nothing like that on the 3.0. And the 2.8 issues are not that widespread.

Do as you please. I don’t own one my good buddy is the lead diesel mechanic at a dealership and I was talking to him about the Cadillac Escalade in the 3.0 diesel for my family and he said don’t do it. That 3.0 is nothing but problems. Said they had several whole motor replacements and that they are very problematic. He also said they will not be making the 3.0 any longer. I’ll assume the 2022 will be the last run. I don’t follow the inline 6 but I do know a few people with them. Most not all of those people have had nothing but issues. I don’t know if it’s the engine itself or all the”clean diesel” parts. I was just sharing the intel.
