Just got my truck, Any ideas on what viscosity of oil to run as well? I live in canada where temperatures go as low as -35 in winter time and up 90 in summer. I know we run 15-40 in all our tractors around the farm in summer and 0-40 in the ones we run in winter, What do the duramax's like summer and winter? thanks for the help, I'd look in my manual, but I didn't get one with the truck and haven't been able to find one yet. :help

i'm going with 5w40 during the winter, don't know if 15w40 will make a huge diff as the 40 part exists in both

Makes a big difference in how the engine sounds cold "not plugged in" when first started. I just went with 5w40 RotellaT form 15w40 Rotella. It has only been down to 15* here so not super cold, but cold enough to tell. Last year it got down to -15 and when started "not plugged in" it would max the gauge out for a few minutes.

I run Petro-Can 5-40 Syn in 08 duramax year around. Starts at -30c with out being plugged in, oil is a little pricey but I run 200-250 hrs before changing. Been doing this on last 3 trucks & have not had any problems. Trucks do not use any oil between oil changes.
