today was quite warm out and was redoing the running lights on the deck ( a pain) i started messing around with the non-functional parking brake and traced the cable to some huge drum thing on the back of the transmission, it looked like a huge brake drum.

to me i thought this is some sort of shaft brake. like on a big ship, they have these sort of things.

its an eaton 6 speed bolted to a 3116 cat.

the cable feels tight when i pull the handle up.

i dunno what to make of this thing or why it doesnt work, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It's a drum parking brake. Lots of heavy duty trucks, like what many folks call 2 tons and similar, used to use this type of parking brake. Some probably still do. If it has a breakover handle to set the brake, it probably needs to be adjusted.

New medium duty trucks use them as well at the rear yoke
