I had a new steering box installed in my 2500 approximately 1,000 miles ago. I now have about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of play in the steering wheel before the tire turns. As a result, the truck wants to wander a little when running down the highway. Truck is bone stock, with 245 75R16 tires and no mods to the suspension.

Are the steering boxes on these trucks set up similar to the ones in a 1992 1/2 ton Suburban, where you could remove some of the slop in the steering box by turning the adjustment screw on top of the box? Last time I did this on the Suburban, it required less than 1/4 turn to fix the issue.

Yes, they do have an adjustment on top of the box. I had to tighten mine about a 1/4 turn to get it a little better. Still not as good as the box that cam off of it.

PS: I tried 3 different boxes before I gave up and just turned the Allen screw on top of the box.
